The purpose is exactly the same as it is with passports, driver's licenses and bank accounts.

How coy of you. Plus, you don't cite any need to fulfill the purpose. For instance, to prevent election fraud so that we assure election outcome is not wrongly affected keep our democracy stable is a purpose. But if there is no election fraud, there is no need for voter ID. You have no logical argument and all you can do is play is silly game not worthy of a debate forum.
