He helps to keep many of those who buy a house froam saving an average of $500.00 a year. For them it would have been like getting $500.00 back in taxes. So though he talks about helping the average person in this country, everything he will do will be for the benefit of the top 2%. I really pity those people who voted for him. Next it will be cuts in Medicare and Social Security, even though he promised not to do so when he campaigned. But then, he is not really known for telling the truth. I would like to see the ACLU file a claim in Federal Court to have the government return the 2.6 trillion dollars they borrowed from the Medicare and Socail Security funds. It would be interesting to see what would happen.

Why not just put your 20% down and avoid PMI?

Republicans have always been masters of getting people to vote against their own interests.

Part of it is the flip side of that old cliche, "If you're so smart, how come you're not rich?" which is, if you're rich you must be smart. Hence anti-union, anti-minimum wage, anti-environmentalism, pro-deregulation sentiment among the lowest income people.
That, and the desire to be seen as intelligent by agreeing with rich people.

Yeah, protecting taxpayers from being on the hook to bail out the FHA again is really a low blow. There is good reason why the FHA rate should NOT be lowered.

"Trump’s action makes perfect sense. FHA loans are “government guaranteed”. That of course means taxpayers are on the hook for defaults.
On January 9, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling stated Obama ‘Parting Gift’ Puts Taxpayers at Risk of Another FHA Bailout.
FHA loans are known as being one the easiest programs to qualify for. Applicants only need a credit score of 580, and downpayments can be as low as 3.5%.
FHA loans have some of the lowest mortgage rates available. Rates on FHA loans are consistently lower than similar conventional loans. This makes FHA one of the best loan programs available.
FHA loans are also the most likely of any major loan to get approved.
Over 70 percent of FHA loans closed in May of 2016. Bullet points from Mortgage Insider.

Given the FHA approves loans at lower credit scores (580) and lower down payments (3.5%) than the private market, FHA loans ought to reflect that risk and have a higher interest rates than the private market.

Taxpayers bear this risk."

you mean telling the middle class not to suck on the public teat and not to vote for more and more government is against their interests? Sort of like telling an addict to give up smack and not waste their money on the pusher?

Yes, after once again reducing the regs on the banks we should worry about having to bail them out again. That is what the GOP nd Trump want to do. So maybe you are right. Even though the fund is high enough for normal bailouts, we should make sure it is high enough to bail out the banks and pay the bankers who do again what they did nine years ago big bonuses.

Because a lot of Americans can't afford to do it. People in my generation esoecially can't because of student loan debt. It is not a simple choice people are making, abd stuff like this is why we have a massive wealth divide. People keep amassing debt while the the one percent keeps getting richer.

I love how right wingers insult working poor people.

Your source is a bad one and you should stop using it.

In fact, anything with the word "Truth" in the news source's name should best be ignored.

That sounds like it's more a problem of "wanting it now" than "saving until we can afford it". The primary function of government shouldn't be bailing people out of problems they created for themselves.

Some "right-wingers" are hard-working people of modest means.

Making it all the more strange just how often they **** on such people.

A lot of Americans are not saving. I am a young peeson with a medical condition and my highest debts are student loan debt and medical debt. I am far from the only person in my situation. I pay my bills. I have a credit score over 700 but its hard. I am in better shape than a lot of people, but there are tons of reports saying Americans don't save and live hand to mouth. There is a problem with the system.

Many people on the right ARE working poor people. Perhaps you might want to rephrase your comment so that you're not smearing an entire group of people?

There is more to this story. It's not being reported. Use your heads, people, for God's SAKE.

Why on EARTH would this be a priority for DT? So much so that he would make sure he signed it before Monday? He had plenty of time. Why that? Because there's something else in it, and PMI reduction became collateral damage.

That's my take on it. 'Course I don't want to destroy him...

how do you get to that? its in response to the idiotic claim that voting for less government is against class interests.

"Destroy him" :lamo

Jeez, you people have gotten so dramatic these days.

A lot of working poor people elected Trump. I know that, but do you really think Trump is going to help them?

Don't ask me -- I don't have much faith in Trump at all.

Republicans have always been masters of getting people to vote against their own interests.
If it was such a great idea why did the Obama administration wait until Jan 9th to implement? Did Obama do something against the own interests of his voters by not doing this until, basically, after he left office?

If you're working your tail off to stay above water now then adding a mortgage isn't going to help. Keep in mind that the expense of home ownership doesn't stop with the mortgage payment. If something breaks you can't just call the landlord to fix it. Your yard and home exterior need constant maintenance. Some of the expenses you run into can get significant. You need a new heat pump? Plan on $5-10k depending on the size of your house and where you live. Plumbing problem? Plan on $500 just to fix minor stuff. Got a pool? Basic maintenance isn't too bad but if something goes wrong it'll probably be cheaper to just fill it in and turn it into a putting green.

I know, it's tough. You've probably got friends with houses and parents that are encouraging you to "invest" instead of "throw away" rent money. It all sounds really great but if you can't afford it then it turns into a nightmare. Just be patient, set up a budget and buy when you can afford it.

Trying to micro manage my life is not necessary. I am obviously a smart person with money, but I have an ongoing medical condition against my financial favor. Almost all Americans are a medical crisis away from bankruptcy. It is not my personal fault. I am not in favor of justifying to issue and trying to work around it. The system needs to be fixed. A person capable of fixing these problems is the type of person who should be president.

The "system" is made up of people just like you and me and it's up to us to find our own solutions. If we wait for our politicians to solve our problems we will end up sorely disappointed.
