Trump making America Great again, I guess. 2000 future jobs promised in exchange for 2000 layoffs now and 1300 more in March.

This week, Trump did a U-turn and thanked GM. The car giant announced Tuesday it would invest heavily in the U.S., generating about 2,000 "new and retained" factory jobs in the coming years. Trump cited it as another example of how he's delivering "big stuff" for America, although GM said the plans had been in the works for awhile.

But that doesn't help workers in Lordstown and Lansing. Those 2,000 workers are still losing their jobs now, GM confirmed. On top of that, another 1,300 factory workers in Detroit are scheduled to get the ax in March.

Dear Trump: Please save my GM factory job in Lordstown, Ohio - Jan. 18, 2017

So did you give him credit for the other thousands? Or only blame for these?

According to GOP blame rules in 2009, it starts after inauguration.

This is how GOPutinistas blamed Obama for losing 2.2 million jobs his first three months.

Not to mention blaming 10.4% on Obama .

This would be sad if it was not so hilarious.

It's sad that people were so stupid as to fall for Trump's bull****. But, it's hilarious that they were so stupid as to fall for such obvious bull****.

It's almost as if GM is using Trump to try and create positive PR for themselves while not actually planning on keeping thousands of jobs in the U.S. I'm sure nobody thought this would happen.

I wonder if Mickey will make a thread blaming Trump for this.

If he gets the credit should he not get the blame?

He deserves neither credit nor blame. Its just Trump and his cult members that want him to have credit. Of course, this will go "unnoticed" by them.

Maggie there is a long history of GM and bailouts throughout the Obama administration and prior. At one point the citizens owned the debt of about one quarter of the company. Crony captitalism through the Obama administration to forced the green cars they wanted produced that the government would be the biggest purchasers. There were several problems with the cars and it didn't work out as Obama hoped.

Ford and Chrysler have both announced new jobs opportunies. Only GM who was the bastard child that allowed the government to actually take over their operations is the one claiming layoffs.

We have had a history of car manufacturers in this country All the big Detroit icons, We the taxpayers have been bailing them out for decades because what they negociate with their unions in the end they can't honor.

Add to that every time government makes a car manufacturer re-tool over regulations on emissions for example, it takes millions upon millions to conform to the new laws. Between the unions unable to make good on all the feckless negociating the company had done previously and the new regulations that have poured out of the arse of Obama the last 8 years like a bad case of diarrhea coupled with the increases in corporate taxes, in order to produce a profit for those people who invest in their industry they had no choice but to move their operations elsewhere. In Detroit where most of these car manufacturers home offices resided, the state of Michigan which has been a very blue state in the last couple of decades have also looked to the auto industry to tax feverously to pick up the tab on all the other feckless spending and bills they wanted to pay. Between the state, federal and unions the companies could no longer survive unless they sent their manufacturing to other countries.

Today, Michigan has a Republican governor, and that didn't happen on a fluke. The majority of the people know who sold them out.

The vast majority of Michigan voters regret ever voting for him.
Snyder is concidered the 3 worst governor in all of the US with a 63 percent disapproval rating.

Republican Rick Snyder of Michigan, whose rocky tenure as governor has included a financial emergency in Detroit and the ongoing Flint water crisis, saw the largest drop in support, according to Morning Consult.

LANSING - General Motors laid off fewer people than it had originally expected at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant last week.

The plant shut down on Friday for two weeks due to low consumer demand for cars as trucks and SUVs dominate the market.

When people return to work on Jan. 30, the third shift will no longer be in operation at the plant, located at 920 Townsend St., which produces the Cadillac ATS and CTS as well as the Chevrolet Camaro.

Local GM spokeswoman Erin Davis did not release the exact number of employees who were laid off on Friday, but said it was less than the 839 positions the company estimated in November. That number was to include 29 salaried workers and 810 hourly workers, 300 of whom were temporary.
Lansing GM plant's third shift gone after 9 months

When I met my wife her home was right next to the lansing plant. They make cars. Not so good right now cause gas prices have been low for a bit so course everyone wants trucks and SUVs again, the bigger the better.

Maybe GM just wanted to free up the schedules of those 2000 people so they could attend Trump's inauguration

I have owned 6 GMC pickup trucks since the late 70's.

This Sierra 4X4 will be my last one.

They are built like crap!

I see a "Yota" in my near future.

Ford would be my first choice if I was looking for a pick up.

The balance sheet would appear to read:

Created 2,000
Lost 3,200

You tell us, is this an achievement?

Over 70% of our new program bookings are for transmission components on trucks and SUV's. A lot of it Chrysler and Ford. Two GM engine platforms we make components for are in Europe. We still make seat brackets for the Malibu, but I see that program fizzling out.

I have a conf call with GM Italy this morning. They are designing a three cyl engine for the Asian market. There are a few components in that engine we are expecting to produce for them. We got the job because we redesigned those parts ourselves to make them less expensive and better.

Another big spike I've seen lately is new business for military vehicles. I know what that means.
