U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D) NJ, decided to ignore all of the U.S. Senate’s agreed historical and traditional ethical standards and give unprecedented testimony in opposition to a fellow Senator in his confirmation hearing before the Senate committee’s hearing to confirm Jeff Sessions as the Trump administration’s Attorney General.

What should we think about Booker’s decision to do so?

Since Booker presented nothing new that hadn’t already been gone over by the committee’s other questioners, What if anything could Booker’s motivation be? Well let’s see. The Democrat party being in total disarray since the election of Donald Trump, seems hysterically searching for a candidate to challenge Trump in 2020. Booker has been mention by some Democrats as a likely possible candidate for the Presidency and the party’s second black candidate for that nomination. Another “Great Black Hope” of the Democrats?

Who among us is naive enough to not know that Booker, (by his unprecedented testimony before the Session’s conformation hearing), wasn’t simply trolling for face time notoriety to prepare for a 2020 Presidential bid?

I think it was looked at as a win win for Booker. Of course it was primarily motivated by self promotion ahead of a 2020 run, but I don't see why he couldn't have believed what he was saying as well.

He was just trying to get ahead of the curve before selling out the American public by voting against the importation of Canadian prescription drugs.
I believe he ruined any shot he had at the presidency with that vote.

I agree it's a ding on his record but far too soon for any ultimatums like that. Here's a statement he made on his vote. Essentially he felt the bill didn't meet some standards he felt were important.

Cory Booker said:
I support the importation of prescription drugs as a key part of a strategy to help control the skyrocketing cost of medications. Any plan to allow the importation of prescription medications should also include consumer protections that ensure foreign drugs meet American safety standards. I opposed an amendment put forward last night that didn’t meet this test. The rising cost of medications is a life-and-death issue for millions of Americans, which is why I also voted for amendments last night that bring drug prices down and protect Medicare’s prescription drug benefit. I‎’m committed to finding solutions that allow for prescription drug importation with adequate safety standards.

Patriotism.

Silly fool thinks he's as smooth as Barack/Denzel and it'll get him into the WH.

Right but he also voted for the CURES Act which lowers current standards for pharmaceuticals in America.

Booker testifying against Sessions didn't raise his profile. If anything, it made his job harder.

He objected to Sessions; he found a way to communicate that directly to his colleagues.

Don't worry, he will soon run into another burning house to rescue another neighbor, and will be front page news again. (Yes, he really did that, when he was Mayor of Newark.)

I do believe he's said things favorable and contrary to his testimony opposing Sessions in the past. Of course hypocrisy always seems to be a prerequisite for America's politicians.

Right but he also voted for the CURES Act which lowers current standards for pharmaceuticals in America.

That's not necessarily inconsistent with his other vote, but I'll admit that rings alarm bells.

It would not surprise me at a all to see big pharma's hand in his pocket.

I guess we wait and see.

Now there is an interesting question....I think it was Rush who said that he was auditioning for a POTUS run but that does not fit. This looks more like an ego trip, "Standing up to Trump" even though he has nothing to use against Trump and he is fighting way outside of his weight class. But what can we expect from a guy whos claim to fame is being mayor of the Hell Hole known as Newark....

He can't do much worse than the guy* who helped bring multiple bankruptcies to Atlantic City.

*Your Dear Leader.

I haven't seen any favorable Sessions comments by Booker.

That's true, but I bring it up because it makes the position harder to defend politically. Nuance is a bad thing when you have to argue with someone like Trump.

1.)What's "unethical" about this move?
2.)Simple. Cory Booker is a media whore. When there's no money on the line he's all about change, progressive politics, and grandstanding. When money is on the line, he's very much in the right wing group of the Democratic Party.

He really had nothing to say. He wants to run for Prez in 2020 on a message of "Make America Newark Again!"

G'luk with that!

We need some semblance of sanity in our next administration and while we probably won’t get much, we can at least fight for some.
Cory Booker just released a statement on Trump's intention to nominate racist Jeff Sessions to AG

This sounds right..."We need to show our supporters in the country that we are fighting Trump, even when we know we are going to lose because we dont have any ammo"....it is all about optics, and make no mistake, there are a lot of lefties who will applaud the kabuki theater, because they have nothing real to cheer. I have little doubt that booker thinks he is building morale on Team D. His act was so pathetic though that I doubt that it worked, all that he accomplished was the next step in the civility of the Senate breaking down.

You underestimate the power of a racially motivated idiocracy
