The Russian Boogieman

The FBI, in case you missed it, has largely become a political tool in recent months. I highly doubt they poured through millions of emails and confirmed each and every one was authentic.

As far as I can tell, nobody has gone through every single last email in order to be able to make the claim that every single one is authentic, and given who the sources are and what history tells us, the odds of that are slim to none.

According to the intelligence agencies of the United States of America, the emails came to Wikileaks from the Russians.

Just like the conspiracy theory that the Clinton's had people killed, right?

They looked at the forensics of the emails. Wikileaks includes the whole email, to include the forensic part of the file. There is software where you can batch process. It doesn't take millions to do. That is how they checked all the emails that were on the Weiner laptop in less than a week. Now please produce ONE email, out of the millions released by Wikileaks since their existence, that was edited or modified.

From the FBI and DHS.
We assess with high confidence that the GRU relayed material it acquired from the DNC and senior Democratic officials to WikiLeaks. Moscow most likely chose WikiLeaks because of its self-proclaimed reputation for authenticity. Disclosures through WikiLeaks did not contain any evident forgeries.

By the way, you do realize that you just proved part of my point for me.....right?

The GRU is Russian military intelligence.

So either your argument is that Wikileaks did not receive the information from Russia(in which case the assessment you have just provided is badly flawed) or it did, in whichj case my previous point stands.

I don't see how it could have been any different. Once they realized that there were additional emails on Wiener's laptop what choice did they have?

They didn't have any choice Jack. Nobody expected that Huma downloaded Hillary's emails onto her family computer and that Weiner would get busted of sexual misbehavior with a minor online.

When you look back at everything, the "secret server" Clinton had set up which proved those she emailed to were indeed hacked by foreign governments, the feckless actions of the DNC over not being protected from hacks.

When you look in total of this administration with all the hacks that occurred under Obama that have compromised millions upon millions of people's personal information....heck my hubby has received 3 notifications during the Obama administration that his information has been compromised from the VA.

I have also received information of a hacking from my internet provider and companies I have done business online. It has caused me to seek additional protection at my expense.

Hacking didn't seem to be an issue with the Obama administration until Clinton lost the election.

No. I proved that the FBI says the Wikileak emails are authentic. The FBI has the emails and forensics to examine. Where the link falls apart, between Wikileaks and the DNC server, is that FBI has never examined the DNC server. The DNC refused to give the FBI access to the server. How would they know who hacked what if they didn't examine the forensics on the server? If it were actually a matter of national security then why not seize the server?

I appreciate that. I try not to assume that everyone who defends Trump is part of "The Cult", and try to remember that a bunch of people who defend him didn't even vote for him. I try to remember that I know very little about the person I'm responding to online. And I try to allow them to reveal their own biases and perspectives without assuming I have them figured out.

That doesn't mean I don't step over the line and occasionally become an aggressive ass, though... I don't necessarily apologize for it, but I'll concede the truth behind the accusation.
So I respect that you conceded the point.

All of a sudden I've realized that there's a real person behind the lines.
It's uncomfortable. We'll both go back to treating each other like cartoons and forget this ever happened, right?

It's easier that way. I'll say that generalities are used for simplicity and that generally it should be assumed not to mean "all".

Yea they care so much about Russia now....
Russia, China, North Korea, etc. etc. have been repeatedly trying to hack us for decades... and we have been hacking them for decades. This isn't new information. We've mettled in Russian elections and other foreign elections MANY times. This has been a part of the game... the only time when you have taken big issue to all this is when you think they made a candidate you hate president.

Russia is not nearly the most dangerous one. It would actually be more beneficial to make peace with Russia so they don't succeed in making a separate world currency with China. Obama has said it himself that Russia is nowhere near the power they used to be, they are weak in the grand scheme of things. But having a country like Russia ally with China just makes the Chinese competition that much more of a threat.

The U.S. has put spyware on every PC hardware going into Russia...Interfered in Russian and Ukraine Elections.... got caught with a spy just a couple of years ago. Interfered with the election in the Philippines, and when Kerry tried to pull some more BS... the Filipino called him a ****ing ***hole... and pledged more allegiance to China and Russia

It's as if you are the bully that has been pranking everyone on the block, and just one day you get outsmarted by one of the little guys and you have egg on your face.... and now you run and tell your parents for being bullied. This is 100% partisan BS, none of them would care if the tables were turned on the other side of the aisle.

Rich Lowry in the "National Review" has an excellent short summary of our recent history with Russia here:
Barack Obama & Vladimir Putin -- Russian Reset Was a Failure | National Review

I agree with Lowry's assessment of the situation except for a couple of things he is overlooking:

1. Obama and Clinton's failure with Russia was due to capitulation to Putin and leaving us totally impotent in defending the U.S. position.

2. Donald Trump is not in the habit of making bad deals giving the other side all the leverage, and suggesting that something can't be done is like waving a red flag in front of a bull to him.
