College students are demanding free tampons on campus

Where do we go next?

Concierge Service?

I mean, we get free flu shots, free condoms(don't need those, yet I'm paying for them), a free gym, rec center, etc. Why stop at tampons?

Again, not really free, just no payment when you get/use it. It's a health and hygiene product, and seems to go line with all of the other services most colleges provide. It'd sure help to supplement that personal cost.

Entitlement? More like asking for a service at an institution that we pay to attend.

It is interesting how attitude and expectations have changed over time. In the late 60's early 70's, health services on campus was for the more typical health issue you would want to go see a doctor for (flu, injuries, etc). Not personal items.

That said, your then ok with money spent to purchase tampons be taken from health services. That means less funds for what was programmed for the money.

Here is a compromise. One tuition cost for males, one for females. With the male tuition being lower.

I guess you are right, in an era where a rock wall is an expected amenity what can I be thinking about...

When Student Unions are so your parents college, now they have resorts:

In 2009, the University of North Florida opened an $86 million student housing investment called, Osprey Fountains, that has been likened to a resort. There is a pool with a lazy river, a putting green, a game room with pool, ping-pong, and air hockey tables, and all of the five floors have laundry facilities. The multiplex in Osprey Fountains has meeting rooms and study areas, with big comfy chairs and couches for students looking to get some group and solo projects done in a quiet workspace. There is an outdoor running track, as well as lighted volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts. With all of these glorious attributes, the most exciting part of Osprey Fountains is its six themed lounges:The Spotlight is used as an event space and hosts karaoke, comedy, and open-mic nights. The Upper-Deck is a sports lounge for those big game days that is set up with large plasma screen TVs. The Morgue is a 24-hour library and, while carrying a rather morbid moniker, is a great place for serious studiers. The B.L.O.C. is available for more relaxed study sessions. The Galaxy is an outlet for the gamers, with huge TVs and desk ports, students can set up multiple gaming stations and host UNF video game championships. Once students get hungry they can visit Joe’s Diner, a ‘50s themed restaurant. There is a shuttle service to take students to class, or they can take the wooden access bridge to campus (representing $1.5 million of the total amount spent). Osprey Fountains is a wonderful place to live, to be sure, but it is also a wonderful place to spend time with others, whether relaxing, playing, or getting some school work done. UNF also has magnificent outdoor opportunities away from Osprey Fountains—the golf complex is a 32-acre, 4-hole practice facility located in the south-east corner of campus, and is always open to students (the men’s and women’s golf teams have their own, private practice space). UNF campus is one of the only schools in the country with a Skate Park, which is open for use to students at their own risk, and has multiple elements for different skill levels. The Challenge Course includes a zip-line complex and hosts several zip-line nights throughout the year.

Well, how about a tuition for straight students and gay males that is higher considering I don't use the condoms they have available? How about a higher tuition for the football players? I mean, I don't play football, or even go to the games. That makes no sense. It's a package deal and yeah, some of that deal includes services you as an individual may not use, but it does not mean that they aren't valid and aren't used by others.

And yeah, health service has changed in the past 40 years. Would you expect it not too? Health is not just getting treatment for illnesses, it's about keeping yourself well. Which includes, basic hygiene.

There is a huge difference between a rock wall and standard hygiene products being provided. I mean, if you think about it, why should they have toilet paper in the restrooms? Why can't people just be responsible enough to bring their own?

Also, my parents didn't go to college. First one in my family to go. So yeah.

Are you arguing that young people have hygiene issues?

Cause gee, humanity at some points has had that figured out.

Women used to be able to manage, while getting it done right, so maybe we have some deeper issues that we should look at.

I don't know how you got that from my post.

If hygiene is not a problem, then why is this service a good place to invest time and energy?

If it is then we need to talk about why people cant get it figured out.

For the convenience and general health of the student body. What's not to get?

Just because services used to not be provided in the past doesn't mean that they wouldn't have been useful at anytime.

What about hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste/brush, combs, deodorant, or powder? Are schools to provide those items free of charge? Some of those items are used by both male and female unlike female specific tampons.

Should students be expected to provide their own toilet paper? Should everyone walk around with TP in their bags so the school doesn't have to provide them?

Because only the 57% or so on campus that are female (would be 64% without affirmative action for men in order to build the rainbow) get this service so fairness is in question, and as I have been pointing out health should not even be an issue.... if it is then we really do need to talk.

Plus, we have more important things to bother with, things are not going too swimmingly in America now...maybe you noticed.

We have GOT to learn to prioritize.

If some girl in college and parents make 150k plus year has to have free Tampons and a convenience to get...no one in their right mind should hire her

In many cases yes, students are expected to provide their own toilet paper in dorm living. As for "walking around with TP in their bags", that's called old school tampons. And yes women did that. :doh

Tp in public restrooms should be provided. TP for dorm residents should be their responsibly

EVERYONE use TP and everyone 100% shares the burden off cost... Tampons are used by maybe 50% or so of the students...but u expect the other 50% that dont to help pay

girls can pay 120.00 a year more in tuition!!!!! if they want tampons

Um, you know this wouldn't be paid for by the government, right? It would be paid for by the students, and also, like I've stated, not every service a school provides has to cater to everyone. It's not a fairness issue at all.

Of course ObamaCare mandates that women pay the same as men in fees even though women cost more....when it comes to millennials especially.

Men subsidize women under the demand of our government.

This might be a "why take a inch when you can take a mile situation.

"More,more more, give us more...!"

So, tampons for public restrooms should be provided then?

Are men going to pay paying for tampons they cant use?

If so, why?

Getting back at the applicants that went in front of you during the admissions process is no way to respond to this.

Oh, I'm so sorry that somethings aren't solely for the benefit of men. Do you need a safe space?

Such a ridiculous thing to complain about.

We get told that we are supposed to be equal.

Men should get the right to refuse to subsidize women.

When it comes to ObamaCare some year groups of men pay almost double what they would if they got equal treatment...this matters.
