Refilling the Swamp

your post is meant to be humorous I hope

It all depends on the optics, I guess. During the lead up to a change in administrations, much is cast as significant that truly isn't. We simply have nothing else to talk about.

IIRC it was a secret vote with 119 Repubs for it. This was a stupid move on their part. So, we know of 119 Repubs who are morons when it comes to the public’s perception of how corrupt they are.

To be fair there are many Dems who privately supported gutting the office.

Read today 1 politician stating and changes should be bi-partisan. So, both parties can gut the office, claim they made it stronger, with no political blowback.

They prefer to return to the days where they investigated themselves.
This is what lead to the creation of this office. Utter corruption by both parties, quid pro quo with the other regarding investigations.
Sadly, many Repubs on the board supported this move, and mainly due to partisanship.
And Dems forgetting that many of their elected House members were quietly supporting gutting of the office for years now.

One effective office is sufficient. Such entities tend to become platforms for partisan witch hunts and a rug under which real problems can be swept. Hopefully that can be changed, but I agree that now isn't the time to do that. Trump, however you view him, was correct in that there are larger problems to address just now. From my perspective, addressing this issue now is much like waxing a vehicle with a blown engine.

My opinion is elected official’s need to be watched carefully.
The House committee is akin to having the fox guarding the henhouse.

It has always been this way. The beginning of a correction is to elect honest candidates. The media could be helpful in that regard, but they've failed rather spectacularly of late. The recent election is a reflection of that.

We're in for a raucous four years. It'll be an unending source of entertainment politically. I just hope that's all it is, along with some domestic improvement.

The Republican caucus has never been known for brilliant thinking. We're having a comedic feast on them trying to abolish the ethics watchdog as their first act...after having been elected on a promise to 'drain the swamp"

The week end comedy shows will be a riot.

The swamp analogy really works on this one

No kidding. They've shot themselves in the foot so many times they're driving our health care costs through the roof.

There a reasons to get rid of it, but when we talk about stone deaf people unaware of the political narrative (of Trump himself) across the country, we're talking about these people, and not the deplorables. I have to give Trump credit for telling them that now might not be the best to consider such a thing.

Yep. See above. I guess they wanted to hit the ground running, and ran straight into a wall. Ryan needs to get a handle on this stuff.
