Bigotry Didn’t Elect Trump

Within another group’s forum, this was a poster’s response for the “Bigotry Didn’t Elect Trump” linkage I provided:
or
Sorry, Liberals. Bigotry Didn ].

The poster, “MichiganMoon” wrote, “Bigotry did help elect Trump. Elitist Democrats bashed hard working Americans as backwards rubes without any legitimate concerns”.
////////////////////////////////

Cromium, I’m a populist that did not vote for Clinton or Trump. I was born and spent most of my life in NY City. I live close by to it now and often go into the city. I’m in agreement with this MichiganMoon post.

I deeply regretted and tried to dissuade my children from believing that cities and their residents are somehow superior to others.
Amongst the attributes beneficial for existing is the ability to think and improvise. Those attributes are needed and become even more important in rural areas where you have fewer people and resources that could, or might (if you could afford or entice them to come) assist you.

My children are now adults. I hope by now they appreciate what I tried to teach them and they’re passing it on to my grandchildren.

Particularly in this age of improved communication and travel, there are no “rubes”.

Respectfully, Supposn

It can be more difficult in some ways living 30 miles from nowhere, but "think and improvise" is exactly what people move to small towns to avoid. Forget looking up subway routes, you just drive/walk to the same places for the same **** over and over. I'm talking i grew up around grannies who went to the same barber/bar/grocery store for 50 years....because that's the only options. Living in a city, especially with no vehicle is a lot more complicated

Really just wikipedia any of these small counties Trump carried and you'll see consistently 98% white. Of course there will be tons and tons of bigotry, duh

Spoken like a true, city dwelling, liberal, social elitist. Yes, we suburbanites and rural hicks are too stupid and uninitiated to live in a city. Why that would require us to 'think and improvise' which we are simply too stupid to do. The country would be a much better place if brilliant people like you told dullards like me how to live. In truth, the sad part is that despite how highly you think of yourself and your own intelligence, you are completely unaware of just how stupid you sound.

This is what elected trump:

It wasn't whitelash it was backlash against this type of predictable hypocrisy.

You poor, poor thing.

Various people in the forums have called liberals and progressives deplorable (and other adjectives), and you've objected at every turn.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

How you shout into the forest is how the echo returns.

Why not try being nicer?
Why not try not being so arrogant?
Why not try not being so condescending?

Well bigotry is definitely not the sole reason Trump was elected, that is absurd. But bigotry definitely played a part. It was without a doubt PART of the puzzle and reason he was elected that's just obvious. But again there are many other parts of that same puzzle. We could talk about vote count and how Trump had basically the same totals as the last two elections. Some of the right voted elsewhere or didn't vote, that hole and others were filled in with bigotry but again it wasn't the sole reason. We could talk about how Hillary did NOT get the vote total the left has gotten the last two years even though more people voted for her over trump. We could talk about how her dislike and confidence of her supporters cause her not to get the votes the left has gotten the last two years. ALL "PART" of the puzzle also. There's lots of reasons Trump was elected, bigotry is just ONE of them it's not the sole reason.

Okay. I read the Times piece. Where in there is the evidence that bigots did not vote for Trump?

Who cares, the number of bigots who voted for Trump has exactly the same relevance as does the number of astronomy club members who did.

When someone blows the dog whistle, you can't say the whistle had nothing to do with why the dogs came running.

I think the 2 of us are in a disagreement over who was blowing the whistle.

It was the MSM that twisted every statement he made and spun this racist narrative that rallied the bigots.

His whole platform was based on the economy and jobs, immigration plays a major part in that. It was also about protecting Americans from foreign criminals and terrorist. None of those policies are racist. Yes, he wasn't politically correct in his statements but he never said "Mexicans were rapist" but you ask the average person who didn't follow much of the election they will swear he did because of the way the MSM spun every policy and statement as a threat against minorities. So yes, bigots may have come out in force for him, but IMO it wasn't Donald holding the whistle. If you want to blame someone blame the media for spinning his message that way. The negative coverage they gave him drove up the bigots for him while the Fox coverage drove up the votes for him that were policy based.

Why would you say that?

It goes to the idea of his legitimacy and Trump has made it clear he wants nothing to do with anything that takes away from his legitimacy as that would weaken any claim he has on a mandate.

Yeah. We disagree. :)

When during the campaign Trump FLAT OUT LIED when wouldn't acknowledged that he knew David Duke, nor what Duke stood for was was all I needed to know about who Trump was pandering and catering to and who was fueling Trump's momentum and campaign.

Yeah. We disagree. :)

You have to admit there is some truth to that. If you look at any of his comments none of them were racist. The worst thing he said was that he wanted to ban Muslims entering the country ( I was against this at first but I have to admit once I started looking at what's going on the EU I can see why he would propose it)

He just didn't want to lose votes. Trump knows good and well those are part of his support base.

There is a reason the people throwing out the n-word and calling Michelle Obama a baboon who needs to return to Zimbabwe are on Trump's side of the equation. You can ignore that if you choose. But, it's not going away.

Well he does have a point. Trump, for the most part, didn't say anything overtly racist.

But that is a Trump tactic. If you noticed all throughout his campaign, a lot of his statements were made with just enough doubt in order to spin it in whatever way Trump wanted. It's a way of saying something while also denying that's what you really meant.

Trump's gift is having everyone hear what they want to hear when he speaks. It's rather amazing, IMO. Hell, he even has Jew haters thinking he is one of them---this, even though he has Jewish grandchildren.

It is amazing, considering he's gonna be the 45th President of the United States.

Trump received substantial support from people without post-high school education. They, to me, were the deciding factor.

So too did Hillary. Trump also got substantial support from white college educated women and men, so what's your point? ;)

I'm not ignoring it, I blame the MSM for it. If you keep telling everyone that the man is a bigot and a racist non stop then it shouldn't surprise you when those racists and bigots start to believe he is one of them.

For a man that supposedly hates black people his policies are largely going to benefit the most (in particular school choice). He is taking an active interest in helping the black communities and bringing better opportunities for those in the inner city. This doesn't sound like the person many on the left try to make him out to be. After the election, he sat down with Jim Brown and discussed with him issues that African-Americans face today and Jim Brown came away not only impressed but feeling positive about Trump and his sincerity in helping the black community. This was AFTER the election, it wasn't about getting votes it was because the man genuinely cares about ALL Americans.

All you have done is confirm your position is one of bias and irrationality as the above would be your "FLAT OUT LIE".
Not only in context of what occurred, but in context of that which was already known.

In context of what occurred, you are wrong.
It was a bad ear piece that led to confusion on his part as to what was being said.

In over-all context of what we already knew, he disavowed Duke a few days earlier.
[SUP]↑[/SUP] (This sentence puts it in full context as it is clear he already disavowed Duke, so to suggest something otherwise based on a bad ear-piece is irrational.)

With nonstop prompting from the DC ELITE both the R and the D divisions, these chaps got an echo chamber going reinforcing the lie. Someone should write a book looking at what they did through the prism of brain washing. I bet that would work as a book.

I doubt Trump is a racist. I've said that before. But, he whistled for them, and they did join his band. BTW, the media didn't nominate Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

His legitimacy on what? What are you talking about?
