Within another group’s forum, this was a poster’s response for the “Bigotry Didn’t Elect Trump” linkage I provided:

or
Sorry, Liberals. Bigotry Didn ].
The poster, “MichiganMoon” wrote, “Bigotry did help elect Trump. Elitist Democrats bashed hard working Americans as backwards rubes without any legitimate concerns”.

Cromium, I’m a populist that did not vote for Clinton or Trump. I was born and spent most of my life in NY City. I live close by to it now and often go into the city. I’m in agreement with this MichiganMoon post.
I deeply regretted and tried to dissuade my children from believing that cities and their residents are somehow superior to others.
Amongst the attributes beneficial for existing is the ability to think and improvise. Those attributes are needed and become even more important in rural areas where you have fewer people and resources that could, or might (if you could afford or entice them to come) assist you.
My children are now adults. I hope by now they appreciate what I tried to teach them and they’re passing it on to my grandchildren.
Particularly in this age of improved communication and travel, there are no “rubes”.
Respectfully, Supposn
It can be more difficult in some ways living 30 miles from nowhere, but "think and improvise" is exactly what people move to small towns to avoid. Forget looking up subway routes, you just drive/walk to the same places for the same **** over and over. I'm talking i grew up around grannies who went to the same barber/bar/grocery store for 50 years....because that's the only options. Living in a city, especially with no vehicle is a lot more complicated
Really just wikipedia any of these small counties Trump carried and you'll see consistently 98% white. Of course there will be tons and tons of bigotry, duh
