The media has been falsely claiming that Trump started the birther issue because he's racist, if this were true why did he only begin talking about it over 2 years after Obama's election during an interview when he was only asking a question then later began expressing doubts when several more reporters asked him the same question provoking him to research the issue further.

Very few say he started it. When the birther issue was dying down....Trump revived it to build his base.

Ok so he is just a idiot that happens to sound like a racist.

He didn't start birtherism, no. He's just a prominent birther because he tried to keep the whole thing going long after the fervor had died down.

There wasn't anything to research. His birth certificate was released to the public and certified by the appropriate officials. This is why birthers have an aspect of racism about them: this level of proof would have been good enough for a white dude. (and, in fact, has been good enough for other candidates)

I do not believe Trump is racist. But, a lot of the people who like Trump sure as hell are.

I generally agree with this. A history of litigation would imply that his father was quite racist, and I think that you could make that argument for Trump. Ultimately (referring to the aforementioned litigation which followed his family for decades), he probably felt that black people living in his buildings brought the appeal down for rich, white racist people. I guess the question is whether or not that makes him racist. My personal opinion is that he doesn't think like that. It's all about the ends justifying the means for him, and through any means necessary he will get the results he wants. So I guess what I'm saying is that he's just a carny and can spot a mark. That doesn't make him smart or tolerant, it just makes him a carny.

what does it feel like to try and defend a moron?

best to learn up before you post such right wing silliness. Donald Trump's Four Decades Of Racism | The Huffington Post

I've seen that. I think there is a divergence with his actions and views on race from what we have come to expect in our PC world. And, him putting Jeff Sessions in at Justice certainly raises eyebrows. But, I've known plenty of people from NYC who are Trump's age, and they all seem to have a little Archie Bunker in them.

Being racist however requires specificity, primarily the belief that blacks are inferior. And, that he does not.

He'll play ball with anyone who shares his core beliefs, shows promise and he perceives has a good head on their shoulders. That's the opposite of racism. That's not to say he is not selective and statistically aware. I'd probably prefer a good Jewish lawyer and accountant over someone from City College with no family history in bean counting and legal "beagling" myself. Of course, that has pitfalls too.

all that said racism is still racism

all that said racism is still racism

Is it? It could very well be argued that the low expectations for Blacks being pushed by the Progressive Left is racism. You know the philosophy of, "the Blacks can't make it in the white, male Patriarchy without our help." I would call that kind of condescension racism.

I agree but you lost focus with that remark. trump is a racist.

Not really. He's probably not a mulitculturalist, and he certainly will be pushing for assimilation, even demanding it. But, he doesn't care about a person's race, just their abilities and level of success. If anything, that's the opposite of racism.

now you are in the right wing bubble...trying to deny reality

Actually it was the Globalist Granny leftists that started the Birther thing. They are the racists. Why do you think the left allows blacks to slaughter each other and encourage them to abort their babies?

Yeah. Calamity in the RW Bubble. That's rich.

Racism takes on many forms. I do not believe it is racist to say some cultures are simply bad. Results prove that they are. It is, however, racist to look at a man's skin color and form a negative image of him even if he is a Harvard Grad, Constitutional Lawyer, a Supreme Court Justice or the founder of a pizza chain simply because he is Black.

The soft racism of low expectations. It's clearly a major problem in the elitist circles of the Progressive Left.

What does the timing of his idiocy have to do with whether or not the claim that that idiocy is a result of racism? There's no universal law that dictates that racists must do things at certain times.

And nobody said he started the birther stuff. That is a lie. There are rumors of some aide within the Clinton camp floating the idea during the primaries. Nutters on the right caught wind of it and sold it to the mainstream.

Trump didn't come in until the Tea Party nonsense that fired up in 2010. They embraced it. The fruit: for a good run of years, 40% of polled self-identified Republicans said Obama was not born in America and another 20% weren't sure.

Trump was just taking advantage of an existing disgusting thing, with racial overtones, to rile things up and get some attention. Does it make him a racist? Is there a huge difference between being a racist and pandering to (potential) racists for attention?

And what is this "just asking questions" defense? Obama's birth was already documented. There was nothing to ask questions about unless someone wanted to smear Obama for cheap points.

Ok so he is just a idiot that happens to sound like a racist.

Trump has always hit me as one of those people who feel they can say stuff that appears to be racist but can get away with it because of who he is and his all purpose get out of jail free card 'I hire too many of them to be racist' excuse.

I suspect he really gets off on it knowing what he said and knowing he normally gets away with it. I think his comment about shooting somebody on Fifth Avenue and getting away with it is his attitude about his entire life.

I'm sure he knows who his dog whistles attract. But, that by itself is not racist. It's just being a ****head.

Why do you hate us so, why do you ask us to watch an hour of Trump speaking. Who deserves this kind of punishment?

Ito ne blows the dog whistle that one knows attracts racists - does that very action not also tar the blower with the same brush?
