The other was that the president-elect is apparently over “drain the swamp.”

That's according to Newt Gingrich, a top ally who told NPR in an interview that aired Wednesday morning that he was instructed not to use the phrase anymore because it has fallen out of favor with Trump.

“I'm told he now just disclaims that,” Gingrich said on “Morning Edition.” “He now says it was cute, but he doesn't want to use it anymore.”

Trump....dialing back on another one of his promises? Color me shocked.

Donald Trump: Abandoning More Campaign Promises Between the Election and Inauguration Day Than Any President-Elect in History!
Truly an anti-establishment figure.

If Donald Trump had a super power, he would be Worst Case Scenario Man.

That was probably the only thing he had going for him. And, of course, he's pissed it all away.

Over? The 'Billionaires Boys Club' he has for his cabinet hardly seems like he ever drained it in the 1st place. Trump don't like the phrase because he never intended to 'drain the swamp' It was just another BS line he used to fire up the gullible at his rallies. Anti-elitist my ass.. No different then 'Build a Wall'. Another BS line the Conman used at his rallies.

3 Goldman Sachs bankers in his Admin? That's about as elitist and swampy as he can get.

All I got to say to the people who voted for him is you guys were warned.

If anyone here actually believe Trump was going to "drain the swamp" then you just got conned. He never even started to "drain the swamp". The swamp is growing.

Given his cabinet selections, it's rather clear he's draining the swamp. Deciding he doesn't want to use the phrase anymore doesn't mean in the slightest the principle isn't in play.

It's rather entertaining to see the emotionalism of the anti-Trump crowd play out on an hourly basis. You want the guy to be more "Presidential" in his tone and words, but end up barking and scampering about when he does so.

I've actually been on the fence about Trump, until now. It is quite clear Trump represents more of the corrupt status-quo and then some. Tex Drillerson should have been the alarm bells. He claims to stand up against the robber barons and the wealthy elite, but he's proven time and time again he is just one of them. The puppeteer has become the puppet.

By what measure is he "Draining the swamp"? Your definition of swamp must be .... unique.

nope, not even close to reality

Yeah, I mean - I dunno if you're an Obama fan or not, but - using Obama as an example, he has been plenty Presidential while generally remaining consistent on issues such as his pledge to fight the fossil fuel industry, and enhance regulation of big business. Trump has damn near done a complete 180.

*cough*Goldman Sachs*cough*cough*~!

You think so?

As I see it, placing people in the various positions who have demonstrated experience and results that aren't connected to a liberal/socialist progressive mindset is indeed draining the swamp.

If you don't think these people represent a different approach, then I'm curious what your definition of "draining the swamp" is, because it must certainly be....unique.

I voted for him the first time but not the second when it became clear he was just bush lite. he certainly was screwed by republican racism so there probably wasnt much he could do. he certainly has been presidential.

If your version of the American Dream is synonymous with the Ultra Conservative Corporate Wet Dream, then you should be happy with the Trump Administration. As a working middle class american, provider for a family of 4, it's a little disturbing the corporate world is being given so much power, particularly the fossil fuel and banking industries. These people are going to root out corruption and crony capitalism? These people are going to legalize it because it's so expensive working around the law like they have been. Think of the profits!

Well, ignoring the echo chamber memes contained in your post, my version of the American Dream involves creating jobs and opportunities that will benefit all, including middle class Americans.

I would think policies and approaches that will restore the middle class, rather than destroy it, would be encouraging. Clearly, some are too attached to catchy phrases and liberal/socialist progressive propaganda to recognize it.

You guys should be happy about this. Aren't you the people who love the swamp?

:2rofll:

So your opinion is based on BDS.

Awesome!

you are naive to think that generals/wall street guys and billionaires are anything but well connected to the elite. The Exxon guy is as elite as it gets, he has to be to get his corporate charity from the government. about 600 million in tax breaks.

You honestly believe these people will risk industry profits for the bolded? Maybe as far as the 2 overlap. At any point where one is weighed against the other the middle class will be SOL.

It will be interesting to see how much of Trump's wall gets built on the border between the USA and Mexico and how much of the cost is paid by Mexico.

It will also be interesting to see how many Muslims Trump keeps out of the USA.

Let's total those things up four years from now and send a report to the White House.

I predict that when all is said and done a lot more will have been said by Trump than will ever get done.

Naïve? Hardly.

The Exxon guy has extensive international experience getting things done, which under the legal obligation to his stake holders, he has proven capable of doing.

Unlike some, I see tax incentives as benefitting employees and investors. Certainly beats destructive and debilitating rules and unnecessary regulations that seek to drive jobs out of the country, a policy direction the swamp has been quite adept at for the last 8 years.
