Thank God for the EC or just 2 blue states would be deciding our president

If you get rid of Florida, Texas and Louisiana, Hillary won the election. OMG! 3 states decided our president!

You don't get to discount parts of the country because you don't like them. And if you think liberals sound stupid when they say "But Hillary won the popular vote!" then you should understand how you sound when you say "If I get rid of the states I disagree with, Trump would have won the popular vote!"

Trump won because he took 3 states f r om Clinton and it wasn't Florida, Texas and Louisiana

The fact of the matter is that nationwide 2.8 million more people wanted Clinton than wanted Trump.

Anyone in the GOP who thinks that Trump has a mandate is out of touch with reality.

Clinton lost because of the green candidate. With her votes, she would have won! This is a fun game!

This is beyond idiotic in terms of trying to measure. Hate to tell you, but California and New York are still part of the United States.

If you take Texas and Tennessee, Hillary's popular vote win goes up by 1.5 million. That is equally useless as any kind of real measure.

Wrong i bet most of those voters are in Cal and New York anyway

Because everyone knows rural states that virtually nobody lives in are morally superior. Or something.

Exit polls showed that more than 50% of the voters felt either concerned or s for the country if Hillary OR Trump won the election. On election night I was commenting that anyone trying to indicate that EITHER of these candidates winning indicated a "mandate" or some kind of evidence that the country has widely embraced their message and politics would be fooling themselves. More than ever before, this was the epitome of an election where people were just as likely voting against someone as voting for someone. Which is equally why people are "out of touch with reality" if they believe that those that voted for Trump automatically agree with everything surrounding Trump.

I would take your avg farmer in a rural state over and yuppie in the city...

Even saying she won in California and New York is overstating the matter. She won LA County by 1.7M and the 5 boroughs of NYC by 1.5M. Basically, there were a handful of heavily populated metropolitan areas where Clinton outperformed Trump by absurd margins and she lost everywhere else.

You're wrong about Florida, since it was part of the Obama coalition, and trump won it by 100,000.

Good thing Rubio ran for reelection and won by 700,000, providing tremendous coattails for trump.

Would you care to know the numbers in the other five flipped states ?

Which is ironclad proof that most of the stupid people live way out in the country,eh?

By that measure, so has every POTUS. I think the context is a little different here.

It's hard to justify a Trump mandate being the will of the people when he lost the popular vote.

Trump won because he got the requisite number of electoral college votes. He did that by winning 30 states to 20 and the appropriate vote tally. This whole 'popular vote' rhetoric is the absolute silliest thing.

You DO know that CA and NY are about 20% of the US population, yes?

Good grief.

California is not just San Francisco and LA. There are millions of people living in suburbs and farms. Ronald Reagan was its governor, fer cryin' out loud. Over 4 million Californians voted for Trump.

The Electoral College is an outdated mechanism that violates the concept of "one citizen, one vote." It is long past time for it to go.
