It seems that fake news is becoming news. It has come to a head with man shooting off an AR15 in a Pizza place, believing the fake news that it was a front for a child molestation ring run by Hillary Clinton andd friends. What is interesting is that the son Of General Flynn who is a member of the Trump transition team said that the fake news about Clinton and the pizza place has to be considered true unless you can prove it isn't. This is called proving a negative, which for those who don't understand is almost impossible. So, do you think fake news is okay?

Have you ever noticed that the wingnuts famous for posting the BS from the fake news sites here literally HATE fact check sites?

I got so tickled on FaceBook. I have a friend that is so gullible that she posts every fake news site she comes across. So, being the asshole that I am, I Snoped her a couple of times to TRY to give her the hint that she is making a fool of herself in front of all her friends.

Know what she did? You got it! She debunked Snopes.com. Know how she did it? You guessed it again. She linked to an article on yet another a fake news site. :lamo

That's when I gave her the well-deserved face-palm.

Your post is a tad ironic because that isn't what Flynn said. He said it would be a story until proven false.

It could turn out well for real news media. People may actually have to start paying for subscriptions to reliable news sources if it gets bad enough.

Disagree. I think it's an issue when we have millions of people falsely believing that a town in america has enacted Sharia law or other nonsense. I'm not in support of any laws being made to change this, but the more attention it gets, and the more we can shame people who believe that nonsense the better in my opinion. No differently than we should shame and point out the falsehoods of say a truther article/website or birther article/website.
 
I guess if they are the ones putting out "fake news" for politial purposes, then yes, it should be pointed out. I guess you are okay with fake news as long as it helps your side of the political spectrum.

I'm okay with fake news...but only as a source of entertainment. People who think fake news is real need a reality check. It's like believing the blathering of the spinning mainstream media...people who believe that stuff just end up looking like fools.
 
Yes, or maybe they shoot someone and someone dies or is maimed because of fake news. It only takes a little shove to put some over the edge. And some people are so stupid that they will believe anything that "proves" their ideas and that is as bad for our democracy as voter fraud.

And Fox News and Rush Limbaugh always give you the straight facts. Every news media give you their slant on the news. If you watch them all instead of getting a steady diet of just right wing or left wing news, you can actually figure out the true from the fake. And the major news media usually aren't the ones who give you fake news, just news with their sdes slant. It is the blogs and media like Breitbart that give you the real fake news stories. They keep telling you the lies until the really dumb actually believe them.

I agree that the answer to bad speech is more speech. What some of these idiots are advocating is prior restraint of free speech, and that is unconstitutional. Having to drag these people into court to teach them about the Constitution is tiresome, though.

If someone becomes violent because of something they saw in media it's their fault, period. The only possible exception is a case where a person's speech is likely to actually cause immediate violence, and it can't just be some item in the news, it has to be specific to that person.

Agreed. But you seemed to suggest that this is all being talked about just because the left is chomping at the bit to silence their opponents rather than an actual concern about misinformation. Now all of a sudden you seem to acknowledge the spread of misinformation "bad speech" seems to be a problem. Now I'm sure some left wingers will just agree with anything because most of the misinformation seems to be of the right wing variety (to an incredibly lopsided amount) but to suggest "nothing more than yet another effort by left wingers to silence their political opponents" seems to be either incredibly biased and uninformed opinion but becomes even more curious when you later on acknowledge that this "bad speech" does in fact exist.
