My opinion comes from experience for what its worth. I have a sheriffs sub station 5 miles from me. The average response time for a priority call is over an hour. Stolen property, vandalism and the like, fugetaboutit. Hence why say they are useless. I am moving to Montana, maybe they are more useful there.

Actually they need a warrant nearly all the time. There are a couple of exceptions. One being the person gives them permission. Another has to do with emergency situations. Fishing expeditions? No.
