With Trump's election, what's going to happen to the GOP now?

So many were openly against Trump.

Does this further splinter the GOP? Or will they circle the wagons and band together now?
Will they all fall inline and support Trump now that he's dethroned the mighty Clinton machine?
Will they follow the path Trump has cleared and work that angle in the future?

What's going to change for the GOP in the coming years?

I say that the Independent party would rise as a major third party so that America will have a three party system from now on. As it were always meant to have.

Nothing will change. Trump and the GOP are in agreement on 95% of things. A lot has been made of the other 5% but most of it will not come forward in the next 4 years. As for those who opposed Trump because of his temperament, the results will speak for themselves and they will come around.

They will hold a lot of power in the next two years.

Are you sure about that?

Most real conservatives I know have said that Trump is far more left than right.

He is.

But Pence isn't. AND Pence is a Washington insider who plays really well with Paul Ryan. I think they will now do some things they haven't been able to - replace Obamacare, scale back Dodd-Frank, open more federal lands for drilling, and all that. But I don't think other than that they will do much. Roe and the 2nd Amendment are both safe. They won't mess around with gay marriage. They'll spend the next 2 years working on a few pet things, and in the end it probably won't change our worlds much either way.

Trump promised rebuilding of inner cities and bridges and roads. I think we've heard that before, and from a guy who really meant it. Didn't happen. Just like Obama had 2 years to get a few pet initiatives done with his majorities, the GOP will now do the same. Then will come the midterms, and we'll see what happens then.

They'll pacify us just enough to let us think that what we want really matters, then keep on their quest for power. Both political parties are in for themselves. Sure, there are some who have enough idealism to think they are working for the people. But those are quickly swallowed up by the DC cesspool.

Not a damn thing. Look at the turnout. This was the GOP all along.
