The archbishop of Kansas City, Kansas, has called Democratic Vice President nominee Tim Kaine an Orthodox Democrat and a Cafeteria Catholic who picks and chooses from his faith.

In his weekly column, Archbishop Joseph Naumann mentioned Kaine’s Catholic roots in the Kansas City area, but he said he wishes the candidate supported all of what the church teaches.

Breaking: every single Christian on earth picks and chooses what they believe. There are no exceptions.

Sorry that upsets you so.

Opposition to abortion and same sex marriage is church dogma, an individual who advocates against Dogma in the church is not permitted to take communion and effectively is not officially a Catholic, it's not a matter of debate.
Contrasted with say the death penalty which the church opposes but it not dogma, a Catholic can disagree with leadership and still be in communion.
