The 86-year-old’s fund, Soros Fund Management LLC, disclosed in a regulatory filing it had increased its bet against the S&P 500, the main index used to measure big-stock performance in the U.S., and holds put options on roughly four million shares in an exchange-traded fund that tracks the index. That is up from “puts” on 2.1 million shares as of March 31.

Wouldn't put it past him. He's just being a Capitalist.

How is buying puts on the open-market "insider trading"?

Obama could be repaying him for his support by tipping him off as to federal bank policy and executive orders as he approaches the end. Obama may stall the economy with more burdensome global change legislation.

Soros makes his money by betting against ecomomic success and the problems it creates for governments. He sees Hillary as a winner of the election, and USA markets going into the crapper.

Insider trading is the use of information not available to the public or other financial institutions.

Soros and Obama meet, and seem to have common goals.

Yes, agreed - but I've seen nothing showing insider trading.

In fact, the article title, the OP, and the responses are a bit deceiving, since he bought not only 4M shares worth of puts, but additionally 1M worth of calls - while he also shorted gold big-time!

This does not sound like a guy selling-off, but rather adjusting his positions.

I see nothing untoward here.

[BTW - it's not clear from the article if their numbers refer to options contracts or the number of shares under contract - I suspect the latter]

Do you know how shorting works?

You borrow something, then you DUMP it..

Yes, I know what it means. In this case he actually liquidated most of his long position.

But it's not uncommon to say "I'm long" or "go short" to mean buying or selling without technically entering a short-sale transaction.

But you're right in technical terms, so I'll give it to you.

The same way the 911 shorts were..
Oh please!

Let's not drag this thread into the CT section ...

There is no conspiracy behind the big shorts before 911..

Doesn't matter who did it or why (jets).. Some people knew it was going to happen and got short..

Bump..

Don't forget..

Think he lost his ass on his bearish bet or corrected his position? Maybe he had stops?

The pump after the Trump election is indicative of a lot of short stops popping..
