What do you guys think about him? How he's doing, what he's done so far, his personality, where the US is headed now that he's in charge, whatever you want to say about the guy. Also, say what country you are posting from, so we can get a better idea of his standing on the global stage.

Not intending to spark a huge debate, I just want to know what what the people's overall opinion of him is at this point.

I predict a tempered and insightful discussion is shortly to take place.

This should be fun.

I'm disappointed. He has the power to right many wrongs that have accumulated over the years but has decided to expand the wrongs instead. To me, it appears that he is just waiting for January 20th, 2017. I suspect that he thought he could Atlas himself through as POTUS but found out the weight to bear was simply too much. He could not raise to the occasion, or as Chris Rock said, "Everybody wanted Michael Jordan, right? We got Shaq." Except to me, that is a disappointment.

I like him, I voted for him (twice), but he is somewhat of a disappointment. I was expecting him to be a liberal, but he has shown himself to be center-right.

I am posting from Oregon.

... the entire federal government is a neverending checkmate pitted in a series of neverending checkmates against the other Great Powers of the world. Almost anyone can be in charge. If its a Bush, he'll find a Cheney. Besides that, the President is just the face of power. The real strength of the executive branch resides in say the hundred top officials, whose appointments are only partially determined by the President.

I'll go.

I think thanks for the decisions made by him and his staff, we have a global economical system. The fact that we can complain on unemployment, and the rise of prices, the fact that it is still there is thanks to his world wide bail outs.

He knew he had to force universal healthcare thru because if a conservative has any inclination of helping another person, it is for profit - it has to benefit them in some way. Companies in America use morals as a means of market potential for their product or service. They aren't going to spend money on someone else. That doesn't make sense to them. So he had to force it, and I think he pulled it off. I was the lucky one that fell on the side that thinks every human being should have health care. I think it is a right. And if it isn't there, it would be good to work so that health care would be a right. But we all know what about the sustainability? Especially with illegals! If we have millions upon millions of people trying to live in America, and every single person has a right to medical coverage, that just isn't sustainable. I think Obama should of done a step further and put a huge ass wall with barbed wire across the southern border. If you want to be a citizen of the United States, then you should go about doing it legally. The reforms he did on immigration - albeit showing the muscle of current interpretation of constitutional law - was spot on. For some reason a guy in Washington had a brilliant idea that if they got their degree in the United States, we should deport them! He changed that, which is good. But seriously, how is that even there in the first place?

I think Americans have secured ourselves in a war with Islamic extremists. I think how we are operating with ISIS is what we are going to have to do for the duration of our empire. So I think what he is doing is the common sense approach, which is to use the resources that he has as President to fight the ISIS threat with using minimal resources. Plus, Congress has to sign on war, not The President.

I thought ebola was contained well. It seems that humanity might have stopped that epidemic from spreading.

I'm trying to remember other issues during his presidency, but I must admit I am on the reefer. My memory sucks and I can't really remember other issues.

In all, I think he was a successful president. I think he did his job. I'm sure with hindsight we could all find out what we would of done differently, but hindsight is always better than foresight.

I predict this thread being shut down by mods by tomorrow evening.

Well, I would say that my opinion of him went down quite a bit in 2013. This was less because of actions by Obama and more because of the fact that I shifted to the left ideologically. I had a brief period of skeptical support after his executive order on immigration and action on net neutrality, but the fact that he is fully willing to sign Cromnibus is an eye opener. The fact that he is willing to bend over backwards to Republicans on everything except for immigration and healthcare (and even on healthcare, he should've been fighting for single payer) has been a huge disappointment.

Overall, I disapprove of his presidency thus far, but not strongly. I doubt I'll approve of him again, but he could surprise me.

He has the advantages and disadvantages (morally and politically) of not belonging to an established political dynasty.

Morally he is able to to do what is right, but politically he doesn't have the power to make it happen.

Hillary Clinton as President would have had a better chance of making universal health care happen, but it is unlikely she would have wanted to.

The President blew this election in countless ways, foremost by not pulling the Immigration trigger BEFORE the election as promised. Hispanic Americans responded by not voting in 2012 numbers, and Dreamers dogged Obama throughout Autumn.

Look how the GOP has imploded over immigration since Obama made his announcement. Ted Cruz keeps the Senate open this weekend, allowing Obama's 24 stalled appointments to be approved.

There's no doubt in my mind the GOP would have forced Boehner to reopen Congress in Autumn, and gone completely off the rails. As it was, keeping Congress closed after July 31st save seven official days helped the GOP win this election .

This should be fun.

That's one way of looking at it.

Obama has been real fun times for the gun manufactures, ammunition manufactures and the gun stores.

If you are an illegal alien or MS-13, Obama was fun to have around.

The Middle East and North Africa don't seem to be having fun times but I'm sure Al Qaeda, it's off shoots and the Muslim Brotherhood aren't complaining.

Ebola and ISIS--Democrats still have learned nothing from the "Dukakis card" that the GOP keeps playing. What the **** was Obama thinking cowering in the WH while his DEMs were being trashed by dishonest, disgraceful, unpatriotic and lying taunts by the GOP with their hit ads and allowing these ads to be used in debates with no answer until it was too late?

Both Obama and Biden should have been all over this Nation in friendly territory and not worried about spineless DEMs running from their President! They learned nothing from GOPs doing this with Bush in 2006 and the GOP got their asses handed to them .

Obama did some great things:
He helped get weed legalized
He made healthcare more accessible
He has a good foreign policy

All in all I think he's a great president.

It's The Economy Stupid--Imagine how much a Romney administration and the GOP spin Machine would have been crowing about this economy this election! The DEM messaging makes me want to puke.

GOP strategists were amazed at how stupid DEMs were for being so SILENT on the comparisons of where we are now gaining over 300,000 jobs in one month compared to the Bush disaster when we lost 4.4 million jobs in six months beginning six years ago last month.

DEMs and the MSM even allowed FOX and right-wing radio to criticize low gas prices, after they used to rip on Obama for high prices. I doubt many Americans mind paying the $2.29 a gallon I paid yesterday, yet DEMs continue to have ZERO for a National message, and that buck stops with Obama.

And this leaves Americans with far more money to spend this Christmas, and we'll be hearing of this good economic news next year from WHO ?

The Crimenibus--SO Obama saves Boehner's ass on this Wall Street giveaway after 67 GOPs defected.

Is Obama trying to go all Clintonesque on us, trying to salvage, rewrite and upgrade his legacy?

What other deals has the President made with Boehner and McConnell, making it easier for McConnell to hang on to the Senate if a GOP is elected President, with a 50-50 margin?

Think these two GOP leaders can ward off the GOP right-wing from tearing apart ACA and immigration reform?
McConnell is already plotting to use reconciliation on at least one of these, and may convince the Senate parliamentarian to go along with both.

Smooth moves there Obama .

The DEM civil war Obama is overseeing is a good thing, though obviously unintended.

Obama/Biden, Reid, DWS and Hoyer versus Pelisi, Warren, Israel and Cummings is a good start.

Obama is now stuck with Pelosi sustaining any of his vetoes, if he has the nerve, since Senate DEMs are now too few and quite spineless. Pelosi is great at whipping her caucus and would have sunk this Crimenibus if she wanted to.

I'm still searching for anti-private pension language GOPs like Hensarling tried to sneak in before I comment on that further .

No DEM Senator will ever want to get stuck with a 97% Obama label again. How'd that work for Hagan, Landrieu and Pryor?

The GOP establishment completely neutered the TEA party in this year's primaries, so no more easy pickings with Angle, AKIN and Mourdock types.

Plucking six DEMs to end any filibusters will be easy with this split caucus.

I can think of at least 13 DEMs plus the 54 GOPs that can override any Obama veto--King, Manchin, Warner, Kaine, Casey, both New Mexico, the one in CO, Heitkamp, Donnelly, McCaskill, Nelson and at least one out of eight from ORE, WASH, MICH, and MINN. And that doesn't count dirty Harry or Feinstein.

Now we see why Pelosi has a seat at the table again.

And DEMs are about to meet the master tactician of our times as Senate Majority Leader, McConnell .

Wait...what?? What did he do to get weed legalized? He did nothing in Colorado...that's for sure.

He made healthcare more accessible

More accessible to whom? Those who can afford the skyrocketing deductibles while they are looking at the diminishing supply of healthcare providers?

He has a good foreign policy

You are probably the only one in the world who thinks he has a good foreign policy. Everyone else has been watching him flail in the wind. His foreign policy depends of inept reaction instead of intelligent and decisive pro-action.

All in all I think he's a great president.

All in all, he has been our worst President in the 20th and 21st Century. Carter shines in comparison.

Exactly Mycroft :2wave: Nor did he unite the country. He did the exact opposite. He divided it. Almost to the point of people wanting a civil war. Not to mention race relations have worsened under his so called leadership. Despite him not having a clue what that word means.

He also has increased the risk of harm upon all Americans in and out of Uniform.

Not bad for man who is afraid of all forms of physical violence, violent speech, and his own shadow.....huh?

Wow, what magical kaleidoscope do you view the world through?
