An example of why Free Speech is so important.

    I came across this article:

Black Lives Matter Leader: What I Experienced At Pro-Trump Rally 'Restored My Faith In Some Of These People' | Daily Wire

This is a perfect example of why Free Speech is necessary for a civilized society. While this one event is not going to make a difference, imagine if we could promote this type of discussion nation wide. It is sad how we have let ourselves become so divided that we don't even recognize that we have far more in common than that with which we disagree. While we may have different views on how to get there, we all ultimately want the same thing and that is a peaceful and productive life. I thought this was a good moment and it is my hope we can see more efforts like this to allow both sides to speak and have a civil discussion. This is the path we must take if we ever truly want to counter this growing divide. The fact that both groups were able to come together peacefully and actually have a discussion is truly remarkable given today's political climate.

It's the the Pro-Trump organizers who love America and respect the 1st amendment. It's the antifa-SJW who want to destroy the foundations of this country in order to suppress and supplant the rule of law.

A guy went to that rally for the EXPLICIT purpose of trying to stir up trouble got shown the class and acceptance that we need to be showing. He had an expectation based on his prejudices that just got shattered. Will we see any level of reciprocity...?
I expected to come down here with my fist in the air in a very militant way, exchange insults, maybe some dirty looks, or who knows what.
Our nation has not always lived up to its ideals, yet those ideals have never ceased to guide us. They expose our flaws, and lead us to mend them. We are the beneficiaries of the work of the generations before us and it is each generation's responsibility to continue that work. - Laura Bush

Can't we just have a good moment where people come together rather than saying people we don't agree with are out to destroy the country. Just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn't make them evil.

True, disagreement doesn't mean someone is evil but antifa and their SJW enablers are certainly evil. These individuals believed that pro-Trump individuals are just as hateful and bigoted as themselves. So they went there with the expectation and hope that they would be violently assaulted and weren't.

This is what makes this such a valuable teaching moment for everyone in America. A simple gesture of respect was able to lead 2 groups to look past their differences and share at least a moment of civility that has become much too rare here in America.

No, not really. Most of that rally started off not wanting to hear anything and making that very clear in a way I certainly wouldn't consider to be acceptable dinner table manners. Both sides started out like that. What happened here was a pair of individuals who broke the mold.

They deserve their leadership roles, and hopefully this might inspire them to communicate more.

All speech is free, but not all speech is equal.

America needs to be sure everyone knows what the best speech is. It needs to be a well known standard, a law even. Not that such speech has to be made, but that when it is, it is promoted by the law.

Speech that protects unalienable rights and freedom is such speech. Speech which defends the constitution, or enforces it is such speech.

I'd have to agree. You can hate the ideology and the power structure without hating the people.
