What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

Mom's 73rd birthday dinner was tonight.

salad with balsamic vinaigrette
cheese pizza
breadsticks
pinot
cake for desert

Didn't eat dinner. Bad cold, runny nose, no fever, no appetite. Snacked on oranges, drank tea. Woke at 2:30 PM, hungry. Ate two toasted slices of rye bread with apple butter, red tea.

Damn grandkids are germ factories. :)

Oh, stop feeling sorry for yourself and sip your tea. :)

So this should get Hawkeye's attention:

Nurnberger sausage with fried potatoes and cole slaw. I have a jar of Bavarian mustard, and I always like a sliced up apple with dinners like these

There's a great German butcher not that far away....I take the drive once in a while.

Seem to be on same wave length tonight as OldFatGuy. Cheers!

What play? That sounds like fun.
We had leftover meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn. We'll be eating healthy again tomorrow.

we tried out for a civic theater version of Our Town. i acted as Wally Webb in this play when i was 11. i haven't been in a play since high school. we find out tomorrow if wen made the cut. i thought that the cold reads went pretty well, and i wrote my own comedic monologue. for my dramatic monologue, i chose Morgan Freeman's (as Red) parole scene from Shawshank Redemption. i didn't perform it as well, but i did my best.

I made chili. Had some ground beef in the fridge, lots of cut up veggies, some beans and a can of tomatoes. Ran out of Chili Powder during the cooking, so tried to get the heat up a little with some cumin. Any other way to do that? I like chili to be spicy hot!

Chili Powder Is:
1 Tbsp ground cumin.
2 tsp garlic powder.
1 tsp cayenne pepper.
1 tsp paprika.
1 tsp ground oregano.

So you do the best you can to match. For the heat I always have lots of options to include frozen Serrano's, everything else I always have. Sometimes I get a little crazy..... once I used taco seasoning and Tabasco....It was ALRIGHT.

grilled cheese on whole grain with sharp cheddar and vegetarian ham
Cajun red bean and vegetable soup

Vegetarian chili tonight, spicy and yummy.

Indian tuna curry with peas and a simple salad of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and red onion with balsamic reduction dressing. Three dinner rolls. Bananas for dessert.

I'll talk about just one part of dinner: Potato Salad: Boiled in salt water yellow potatoes diced, diced celery, green onions, diced deli ham, diced bread and butter pickles, bread and butter pickles "juice", yellow hot dog mustard, mayo, crema mexicana, chicago steak seasoning, homemade really good tzatziki, Murray River salt and hard boiled eggs sliced over top.

Same things as usual.

Rice with vegetables and fish. It doesn't change often.

Herb crusted lamb chops, greek style salad, hummus, pita.

Stir fry tonight nothing fancy. chicken, broccoli, snap peas, onions, mushroom, peppers. Sauce made with a bit of cornstarch, soy sauce, spices, water, served on a bed of Jasmine rice. It was tasty.

Found a really good restaurant in Tacoma run by a chef from the Alsace France....what this place is doing in Tacoma I have no idea...

French onion soup done Alsace style (Herby) and Bouchee a la reine aux Fruits de mer....a seafoody cream sauce over puff pastry deal served with a starch and veg medley...and a roasted tomato 1950's version.....I have not seen one of them in near 20 years.

Seattle is so trendy now, all the old places are closing, this was a blast from the past..old food done the old ways done very well.

A seafood chowder out of the leftovers from last night, and a really nice garlic bread.

Last night my wife took me out to a really nice Italian restaurant as part of my Christmas gift. She also got me tickets to see Jim Norton who I love.

I had a Caesar salad, a pasta dish with rabbit ragu, ossobuco with risotto, and a banana cake for dessert. I had never had rabbit before, and really liked it, I thought it tasted very similar to pork. The ossobuco and dessert were both excellent as well.

I also splurged a lot more than I normally do and paid $55 for a shot of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon. I'd been wanting to try some for a long time and this was the first chance I had. It was very good, probably the best bourbon I've ever had, and I'd definitely buy a bottle for retail price if I could find one. I wouldn't pay that price for it again though.
