What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

We're on a big peanut butter kick right now. I've been having a peanut butter English muffin for breakfast every day, and our younger kiddo is all about the PBJ I make her for lunch. No one in her class has an allergy, so it's allowed.
I hadn't had PBJ in a long time... ben rolling with it for about 6 months now. Yum.

I was cool with the school giving us allergen restrictions of other kids but when they would not let me put a cookie in the girls lunches and the girls (they were young) telling me I could not give them a cookie because of some no/low sugar rule I about lost it and went to the school and had a talk with the Principal. We live in a tow of just over a thousand so that got around. LOL

Older kiddo had a kid in his class with a significant peanut allergy when he was younger. I sent him with peanut stuff a couple times before I found out about it. I didn't mind that restriction. Tiny kids trade food like they trade germs. As for sugar restrictions, I haven't encountered that yet. Honestly, we should probably consider lowering his sugar intake, because he transitions into actual David Lee Roth around bath time until he finally passes out.

I am totally cool with not sending allergic foods to school for that reason... I think we had a kid like that too, but that was well over ten years ago. I don't mind limited sugar but I was giving my kids broccoli, garbanzo beans, tuna sandwich, almonds and nuts and berries, etc... my kids for eating great could have a cookie or piece of chocolate. It turned out it was not a big rule... just a recommendation but teachers made it sound to the young kids like a rule. Anyway, all worked out. My kids survived.

:giggle: My great-granny Parrish from Smithfield, NC (I'm named for her, and she was Ava Gardner's 3rd grade teacher) ate hers this way. With a salt cured Smithfield NC ham slice on an angel biscuit, there's nothing better. If I tell you my lox's, eggs and onions would make you weep? If I tell you my shrimp and grits are killer and would make you swoon, does that make that tablespoon of sugar easier for you to swallow?🙏

Well, I'm not going to throw rocks at Ava Gardner's 3rd grade teacher and I'm damn sure not going to throw rocks at someone from North Carolina. You'll never catch me saying ugly words about salt cured country ham or homemade biscuits. Shrimp and grits are mighty fine. I love 'em. I also like garlic grits and cheese grits. Mama's Boy, a restaurant in Athens, Georgia serves excellent cheese grits for breakfast. To my taste all of that is fine without sugar. 😁

I like bagels with lox and onions. I like bagels with pretty much anything. (don't ask my opinion of gefilte fish, with or without sugar 😉)

Not a gefilte fish fan but have perfected matzoh balls to my father-in-law's standards. Come join us for Sunday brunch. Lox, eggs, onions. bagels and my Old Bay Bloody Mary's.
 
Working a three day music festival that will require five days of meals.
Slow roasted a whole turkey breast that I will slice up and use for making sandwiches.
Getting ready to smoke six pounds of boneless, skinless chicken dark meat to be used for Green Chicken Chili with white beans.
Eggs and flour tortillas for breakfast burritos and also some cheap bagged cereal.
Condensed skim milk, wine, sports drinks, coffee, tea...etc.
 
I have been prepping all day for Thanksgiving dinner for 15 tomorrow so cooking dinner is not on my to do list. We are at the lake so take out is not an option. There is some leftover pasta so I'll added in some mozzarella and top with the leftover panko/caper/anchovy crumble for himself and I'll have a martini .....with olives of course because veggies are important.

@Old 'N Chill ... thanks for that reminder. Happy Thanksgiving for those that celebrate this holiday. There really is so much to be grateful for each and every day, no matter where you are. I find myself more and more straying into traditional neighborhoods when walking about and enjoying all to be found in little eateries. There is something mesmerizing about them. The family activity. The neighborliness. The smells, sounds, deliciousness and safety in such small places. Truly everything worthy of being thankful for.

Amen, @SayMyName. A meal shared with family and friends is an act of love, community and thankfulness for their company and what binds us together. In these uncertain times simple things strengthen these bonds.

Some years back I was working the BBQ at a work organized family beach function. A colleagues ~5yr old son comes and asks for a sausage, so I ask his dad if that is ok and he says no. Kid comes back 30 mins later and asks again. Dad is standing nearby and says no. Another 30 mins and kid is back again. Super nice and polite kid, but definitely keen on a sausage. This time dad is standing next to me so I wait for him to answer. He says ok this time and i give the delighted young fella a sausage. Dad looks at me and says "watch this". Kid eats sausage and it's like someone placed a rocket up his behind. Just tears all over the place almost uncontrollably. I say to dad, i guess that's why no sausages? Dad says that kiddo loves them, but will crash quickly after going crazy for a bit. Just wanted to wait until it was nearly hometime so he can bundle the crashed post sausage son into the car and take him home to bed.

Our daughter had a nasty milk allergy when young. We just kept her off dairy once knew. We didn't realise how serious it was until she was passing cake topped with whipped cream to a friend at her birthday party and spilled the cream on her arm. Her arm actually blistered as if it was acid. Since then I have always been super careful with feeding other peoples children. Food allergies can be scary stuff.

I can relate @Helix . My wife and myself are both 70. I'm 19 days older than she is. She looks like Sally Field when she was in those Smokey and the Bandit movies. She took this pic of me last night after we finally got the 4 and 9 year old kiddos we are raising in bed for the night.

I can say that the human body adjusts to being able to go on little sleep and to the constant demands of little kids better than I thought that it could even when one is older. It is worth the effort every day. Remind me of that the next time I hit a biological limit.
