I've cut back on restaurant food in general since the outbreak hit the US, although I went out for NY style pizza tonight with family, and had tacos last week. I've cut out all Asian food for now, though it's not a safe bet anymore, and you could just as easily catch the virus eating Persian, Italian or Mexican food I'm sure.

The paramount benefit of diversity is of course tasty food, and now diversity may have cost people even their favorite ethnic cuisines- the NY pizza place was dead, which actually turned out OK for us because we got great service, something you don't always find at this particular restaurant due to it's popularity. The food is always good. At many Asian restaurants around town, they have no customers, and I'm wondering if some of them may shutter for good soon.

I have two grandparents I take care of; I'm not going to risk infecting them during the asymptomatic phase.

In general I am not.

No, not Yet......

IMO, you have posed a good question.

Based on my personal experience working in more than a dozen restaurants and as prior owner of a tavern, very few restaurants, bars, grills/eateries provide the majority of their employees sick days or sick pay. This results in sick employees muddling through their job duties.

While aware of increased risk right now, my love of food, my habits and financial wherewithal continue to drive my behavior. I eat out a lot... probably at least an average of one meal a day the past week.

I seldom eat out because I can do better at home. I am very much an introvert who doesn't like I being in spaces with groups of people and I also like to cook and think that I am a decent cook. With the exception of a few cuisines that I do not have the proper equipment at home, I prefer to cook. I only eat fast food under duress because of the way that I feel after eating it.

No, but we are now discussing what would be the trigger for us to withdraw from public places.

I never eat at Chinese owned restaurants...

I'm not eating out because it is Winter and I live in rural Alaska, about 8 miles from the nearest town with a population of 7,500. Sometimes it can take days before I can reach a plowed road with a vehicle. Other than to hunt and go grocery shopping I don't really have a reason to leave my home during the Winter months. Besides, all the good restaurants are only open during tourist season from May to September.

I meanwhile shun Italian wines and I've never been a fan of corona beer anyway.

The greater idiocy that the opening post suggests, lies in suspecting certain ethnics (both in food and cook) as providing a greater danger of infection.

Covid doesn't have a passport and that demonstrates that it doesn't have a nationality either. So if you want to completely insulate yourself from it (and everything else that might feed own paranoia), lock yourself in your cellar (if you have one) and pray that the ceiling holds fast.

And shut down your internet connection, we all know there are all sorts of online viruses.

Brave talk, contrary to the other thread where you said you're isolating yourself from the coast, and trying to hunker down with locals there in Andalusia.

We rarely eat out anymore, like Linc, we can make good dishes right at home that taste much better than we've had in restaurants over the years. But there are days where we take out from a good local restaurants and eat the food at home. Yesterday we had Mexican, crispy smothered in green chili chili rellenos. This weekend we'll be taking out from a good Asian restaurant, shrimp coconut curry, we add our own scallops to it when we get it home for a more complete meal.

I haven't stopped going anywhere because of this virus, have been to Walmart and supermarkets numerous times, etc. I'm not too paranoid about this yet, my immune system is pretty strong, I don't take flu shots and only got the flu decades ago when I was still getting the shots. Haven't had a cold in many, many years. So, I figure, even though I'm older, if I did get infected by this, it would likely be mild.

You’ve cut out all Asian food? Because of the Coronavirus?

I haven’t changed anything about my dining routine, although in the last few days I’ve had Thai food twice instead of once.

That's probably the most stupid post I've read today.

So stupid in fact that I won't even bother challenging you on its content.

Mayor Marty Walsh (Two weeks ago)
“It’s safe to come to Chinatown,” Walsh said. “We want to make sure we continue to support our businesses here in Chinatown. This is their bread and butter and if they are losing business, they will have to shut doors.”
(Two weeks later)...same guy shuts down St Patricks day parade......but not the Boston Marathon.....figure that lefty out. He doesn't even agree with himself.

Mayor Marty Walsh tosses the race card on CV.
"The people that are out there saying on social media, being racist towards the Chinatown community and Chinese people in general, I'm asking you to stop," he said. "Enough with that hate mongering. We're better than that."
Mayor Marty causes CV panic even shutting down parades, then ponders why people aren't flocking to Chinatown for lunch. People, if you weren't sure if lefties were completely nuts just take a look at Mayor Marty.
Which is it Marty? Is the CV bad like you said when you shut down Bostons St Patricks day parade or should we be flocking to chinatown for public lunches to prove we aren't racists?
Which Marty....which?

Just like Trump and others, he adjusts as we learn more about this.

As for the OP, we usually eat at home. I love to cook and try out new recipes. Yesterday, on the way back from a short trip, we went to a nice Chinese place. We like to frequent the ones who have a grill, because of the veggies grilled to order.

Not exactly. He tells us to eat in Chinatown...essentially says we are racists if we dont. Then he shuts down St Patty parade citing not wanting to spread the illness....but then...and this is the part we can prove he is a liar on.....does not cancel the Boston Marathon....why you ask? Because that generates millions in Revenue for Boston. So he apparently is concerned with the crowds at a parade spreading contagion but not worried at all about crowds10x that size with people coming in from all over the world spreading contagion. Do you see his BS now?

Love Thai...what's your favorite dish?

The St Patrick’s day parade is on March 15th and the Boston marathon is on April 20th...

Anything about these dates seem like it might be factor?

Not curtailing eating out but thinking of having an over 60 Covid-19 party to get it now instead of waiting and worrying. [jk]
