I'm still eating at the cafeteria for lunch. Haven't hit a drive through since Sunday. Not sure if we're going to eliminate eating out. We'll probably do it a lot less for a while.

I've cut back on restaurant food in general since the outbreak hit the US, although I went out for NY style pizza tonight with family, and had tacos last week. I've cut out all Asian food for now, though it's not a safe bet anymore, and you could just as easily catch the virus eating Persian, Italian or Mexican food I'm sure.

The paramount benefit of diversity is of course tasty food, and now diversity may have cost people even their favorite ethnic cuisines- the NY pizza place was dead, which actually turned out OK for us because we got great service, something you don't always find at this particular restaurant due to it's popularity. The food is always good. At many Asian restaurants around town, they have no customers, and I'm wondering if some of them may shutter for good soon.

I like to cook for myself for the most part, and go out once in a blue moon anywho. But we may soon not have a choice. Restaurants in downtown Seattle are talking about laying people off and closing saying their volume has dropped 60%.

Dylan's Forest Hills - Photos | Facebook

Opening St. Paddy's day. One of the partners co-owns Home on the next block. A favorite. Recently opened Bam Bam's on the next block with another partner

We're regulars at Nick's.

BAM BAM Empanadas menu - Forest Hills NY 11375 - (516) 259-6934

My wife favors the lobster empanadas.

Lots of yummies on that menu that I'd like to try. I don't know about Dylan's Southern comfort foods, though. I saw grits and biscuits with gravy, but that's all, and then it occurred to me that maybe my definition differs from others.

Shouldn't fried chicken and chicken-fried steak be on the menu? Greens? Cornbread? Hush puppies? Banana pudding? Chocolate pie?

Not exactly. He tells us to eat in Chinatown...essentially says we are racists if we dont. Then he shuts down St Patty parade citing not wanting to spread the illness....but then...and this is the part we can prove he is a liar on.....does not cancel the Boston Marathon....why you ask? Because that generates millions in Revenue for Boston. So he apparently is concerned with the crowds at a parade spreading contagion but not worried at all about crowds10x that size with people coming in from all over the world spreading contagion. Do you see his BS now?

:doh

I'm Irish and I dont eat at Irish restaurants...our food is boring as hell.

Chinese restaurants are people's businesses, people's jobs, people's livelihoods.

St. Patty's Day parade is a one day affair when some businesses get a boon in business. But it will be exactly what leaders across the nation are saying to minimize...the gathering of thousands of people.

One is making a living, the other is a party.

As for the marathon? It may still be cancelled. It's an entire month later than St. Pattys. Who knows status of the crisis by then? And it may be run with no spectators like some other sports. But either way, it's more than a party to those athletes.

Out at least twice a week. So many great restaurants here to try. So many bad ones to miss before they close. A Turkish restaurant this past Sunday, excellent. Soon we have a new southern comfort food place opening, and we'll learn about what they mean by southern comfort food. :)

Same. The mall in my house is nearly empty and I hope the new restaurants that have been put up will survive. I'll keep eating out as this whole thing is overblown.

Well based on what they are saying its certainly not going to be over by April. Is the media wrong? The marathoners themselves are a massive crowd from people all over the world congregated into one spot. You couldn't ask for a better infection stew. But send us a pic of your dish from Chinatown. When are you heading down there?

The media I've seen is playing it by ear and saying things like 'for now...' and 'things may change....'

I'm self-quarantined, as has been requested by our county if possible, in order to reduce the infection bell curve. (And I live on my farm and do that whenever possible anyway!) Are you implying that my actions are not prudent or responsible? Small business loans are now going to be available for our local restaurants and I'm glad that safety net has become available for them and that myself and others wont be potentially passing the virus to any of them or their families.

Nope. In fact, I went to an All-You-Can-Eat sushi buffet yesterday and made them regret their business model.

But you skipped the best part- the shellfish. Some "gourmet" you are!

Yeah, they did have lobster, crab, clams, muscles, etc but I didn't eat those. But octopus and squid are molluscs and I did eat those.

Planning to go to a family owned burger joint for lunch today. The money I spend there won’t be a huge amount, but maybe it will help.

Don’t eat out all the much to be honest. Maybe twice a month on average. We cook most of our own meals though we’ll order pizza or burritos or similar about once a week.

Last time I ate out was at an old school Chinese place with my brother and cousin. Delicious if you like Chinese food the way it was made in NYC back in the 70s.

Old school Szechuan from the 80s! Yes...moved out west and it was not to be found (loads of other great Asian food tho). Occasionally can still find it on trips to FL.

I have decided to cut back the eating out and cook more, but mainly because of the economy. If I keep my job (and right now, things are looking fine, but you never know when things are this up in the air), then great. I was planning on getting a house this spring, but I think I am going to wait a year and see if housing prices drop as a result of this turmoil. A secondary thought is that the down payment I have saved up may be needed if I am unlucky.

So right now, it makes sense to cut expenses. From a health perspective, I am in good shape, have never smoked, have great bloodwork, and am in a good age range.

At present I do not eat out.

Last Saturday I have been eating out again - and enjoyed it! :peace

Until someone shows me how to easily make pad thai...I'll be heading out.

I have started eating out again.
