Minute Rice?

Not only does it take almost as long as regular rice and cost more but it sucks as well.

I don't like minute rice anyway. I have become use to the brown rice which actually has a flavor. Of course it takes about an hour from start to finish. I am looking for a reasonable source for wild rice to mix with my brown rice. I love the brown and wild rice it as an alternative to stuffing, I still stuff the turkey with stuffing for everyone else and I sprinkle the rice into the roasting pan and add a little water plus whatever else you like and it is delicious.

That's about how long it takes for regular rice. Parboiled rice should take 5 minutes. Unless it the precooked pouch rice which takes 1 minute in the microwave.
 
Get a $30 rice cooker please. 2nd most used plug in kitchen appliance at our house, behind the toaster.
Put rice/water in, press a button or two, done in like 30 minutes fresh...keeps warm...can use a timer...no reason not have one.

If you forget to cook it and have a meal ready, try Vertee rice in Jasmine or if Indian food, Basmati.
I prefer the Jasmine over the long grain, I find the long grain has a funky taste. It's pre-cooked, you just microwave heat it. Found mine at Kroger.
Way better than Uncle Ben pre-cooked rice IMO...that stuff is inedible.

Between those two, your rice cooking needs are solved. Minute rice, uncle bens, that's old school cheap-American-marketed crap :p Make rice great, for a change :)

If its actual minute brand rice then in only takes five minutes. If its regular parboiled rice then it takes as long to cook as regular rice. Regular parboiled rice is not minute rice. The parboiled rice was brown rice that that has partially boiled to remove the bran. Because parboiled rice was partially boiled with the bran it has more nutrients than regular white rice. Minute rice or instant rice is white rice that has been partially boiled and then dehydrated before being packaged. Nice thing about parboiled rice it doesn't turn mushy like regular white rice can if you add too much water.

I prefer basmati rice over regular white rice and parboiled rice.Its almost as forgiving as parboiled rice if you accidentally add slightly too much water when cooking and some brands cook just as long as regular white rice and parboiled rice.
 
I bet OP never checked his recipe as to altitude. You know the boiling point of water changes at different altitudes. That's why it's so hard to get good cup of chile in San Francisco.
