What kind of desserts do you like?

For a quick but really elegant dessert for company, I fix Bananas Foster. Another favorite is Tiramisu. My mother loved to bake desserts and I inherited that love of baking. My brother actually had a cook book of all my mother's favorites printed up and gave to all the family. One of the best recipes was old fashioned real NY style cheesecake.

I had to edit to add one more that I make during the holidays. It's a recipe I found on youtube posted by a man in Australia. It's easy, sweet, warm and delicious. Sticky date pudding -- it's eye-crossing yummy.

Thanks for the fun thread!

Brownies with ice cream. There's almost nothing better.

You are welcome!

I am trying to find the English names for the German and French desserts that I know.

Maybe someone has heard of the "Salzburger Nockerln" of Austria?

Pumpkin pie and yes, good old lemon jello without the fruit and with whipped topping on top.

Pecan pie, apple pie, cheesecake, ice cream and of course, chocolate of any kind.

I dont do sweets, but in competitions where I have to present a dessert I make a salted caramel, candied bacon, brownie that is pretty ridiculous.

@ caramel

I like it - but rather sweet and not salted

Surely you had some desserts at Christmas time.

Id rather bake them than to eat them because I lost my sweet tooth about 30 years ago. I worked as a baker in college and overindulged.

Now only a lemon bar or very occasionally a well made plain cannoli sound appetizing.

I also worked as a baker once.
It was nice around Christmas time!

Most people don't understand but I love a well made traditional fruitcake or stollen. Buche du-Noel are dull and annoying to make.

This happened to me, too, and now I'm wondering if it wasn't because I over-indulged as well. Interesting idea.

I will occasionally have strawberry shortcake, but that's about it. And, I went from loving chocolate to loathing it.

We limit sweet tooth confections to once a week after dinner, then relying on homemade ice creams, fruit granites, reserving pastries for Sunday morning early afternoon extended breakfasts. Otherwise it sliced fresh fruit, berries, red grapes, assorted nuts, small amounts of dessert cheeses like baked lemon ricotta, mascarpone, low sugar panna cotta always made with cane sugar. Oatmeal cookies are relegated to afternoon snack for the kids with more fresh fruit. My homemade oatmeal cookies have a touch of maple, with walnuts, hazel and brazil nuts, and have to be chewed for at least a half hour.

We all get plenty of carbs from home baked breads, baked almost daily. Usually whole grain hard crusted chewy peasant breads.

Depends on the meal.

Sometimes a nice mixed berries w/creme fraiche is all it takes... other times bring on the banana pudding, or the hot apple galette with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. Pecan Pie might tickle my fancy or I might want to nosh on a sfogliatella or a cannoli, or hell, just a couple of lemon knots...then we can take it from flan to Black Forest Cake...its all good.

A lot of times during the week I might have one or two Hobknobs or Jaffe cakes and call it a day.

You are a nosy stiltskin, aren't you?

j/k

We gave up refined sugars, most obvious carbs, gluten. It isn't easy to come up with desserts that satisfy the cravings, but we settled on one small serving of high cocoa chocolate a day.

No, I am not.

I am not asking for myself.

My idea is that you can all talk together and share ideas.

I am very picky about chocolate. I tend to snack on bits of 75-85% baking chocolate instead if sweet rich chocolate desserts.

I'd rather have well-made bread with cheese than sweets. I eat mints after dinner if I want something sweet to cleanse my palate.

I love fruitcake a lot! We also have this word for it: Hutzel-Brot. :)

Any more desserts? :)

In times of Corona desserts may be comforting! :)
