Vegetarians might have higher risk of stroke than meat eaters, study says

Honestly I think a lot of this stuff is a result of PhD candidates running out of ideas for dissertations. It seems a lot of this kind of rather sketchy research is being done. And the impact on us is that we have to check the news to find out if coffee, bacon, red meat, anchovies, lettuce etc. are safe for us to eat today.

I think our genes, lifestyle, and attitude about things probably dictate our well being more than anything else. Meanwhile our bodies tell us how we're feeling and periodic blood tests go a long way to inform us of our general health. Otherwise, personally I think we should indulge in processed foods very sparingly and otherwise eat what we want.

A basic study of psychology would afford you the understanding that when we perceive others to be pretentious or arrogant, it is generally because we feel inferior.

(essential it's a defense mechanism, "they are not really smarter than I am, they are just arrogant" (pretentious)

Hope this helps!

I won't even bill you. ;)

Nah, in your case, its just plain truth. There really are arrogant people on the internet who in the end are just empty suits. We get a lot of them here, and they usually dont last very long. :2wave:

I can only offer you insight, I cannot imprint knowledge on you.

Diets are, and should be, a personal preference. The end.

My guess is it's a result of higher salt contents in vegetarian type fake meats and other meals. Hell, a V8 is sporting nearly 700 mg of sodium. Two of those and you've almost reached your daily allotment of salt. Now run that through three meals, all of them probably dossed in salts.
You might be on to something, but the article doesn't give a specific reason. I guess they are guessing like the rest of us.
From the article
The exact reasons for this higher risk found in vegetarians are not clear, said Tong. It is possible that this is due to "very low cholesterol levels or very low levels of some nutrients," she said.
"There is some evidence which suggests that very low cholesterol levels might be associated with a slightly higher risk of hemorrhagic stroke," she said. Similarly, other research points to deficiencies of some nutrients, like vitamin B12, may be linked to a higher risk of stroke, said Tong.

No one is going to steal your hamburger, man. Calm down.

He has elsewhere expressed fears that he is going to be forced to become vegan and - I am 100% serious - that he will be "banned from farting".

Huh? Who are you talking to?

You. Duh.

As if 3 in 1000 over 10 years compares to the clogged arteries of meat eaters.

Vegetarian is more healthy. Deal with it.
