We were there a while back and I was not impressed with it, but people are all gaga over it. I don't get it.

IDk, it's one of those places that some people just go crazy over.

Some of the people where I live insist Five Guys is the greatest thing ever. To me it's really greasy slop.

I'm not either. It's mostly frozen or pre-packaged food. I shop at Whole Foods mostly.

I don't get the hype. Love me some Wegmans, tho:lol:

That might be my issue, I cook as much from scratch/fresh as I can, premade frozen ****s for the birds.

other than some are enamored with it, what do you find wrong with trader joes?

The prices were meh, a whole lot of "ORGANIC" labeled food, which I tend to not buy because it's over priced. I like fresh meat, fish, veggies. I shop when I can at HEB Central Market, it's not cheap, but the food is top notch quality.

It's an upgrade. Some upgrade their car, some their yard, some their entertainment and some their food. I haven't met any fanatics.

I was once involved in a gift exchange that required that the value of the gift be less than $10. The gift I got was some really nice, kind of gourmet-ish salsa from Trader Joe’s. I haven’t shopped there because the store locations are not convenient. Mostly I go to Harris Teeter or Wegmans.

Good food, good prices, nice people. I love it.

I freaking LOVE Trader Joe's and miss it a ton... Each year when I go back to the States I hit it up...

Inexpensive good food, wine and alcohol... they have the frozen stuff, of course,

the Mexican: burritos, enchiladas, taquitos...
the Asian: dumplings, stir fry, spring rolls

Organic stuff like Quinoa... hemp seed bars... nuts, fruit bars and fresh and dried fruits up the yin-yang...

And things that you would not expect from places like Vietnam

then they have pizzas and cool stuff like sweet potato frites, peanut butter filled pretzels and tons of amazing ready made things like wraps and sandwiches, a huge variety of packaged salads, Cobb, Caesar, Southwestern, etc. sushi,

Good inexpensive vitamins

fresh produce, great cheese selection, tons of great snack things, chips, cookies, lightly salted edamame, etc.

meats... fresh frozen fish and meats, tuna burgers, veggie burgers, tofu

Except it's not really all that much of an upgrade anymore.
Back in the early days, Trader Joe's was a Southern California niche supermarket that offered something different from the typical store.
Nowadays, it's not all that different anymore.

To me, it's not much different from Gelson's or Pavilions.

Those are totally different... more Whole Foods... Trader Joe's is still niche and unique.

If one values local and organic, it's easier to find and more diverse for some products. It offers some great prices on ethical if not organic products. Good prices on organic meat and supermarket tofu. Higher quality frozen and canned goods. The beer is grossly overpriced, but there's a craft selection. The store brand is nice and there are many products in it.

It's not the best of Beverly Hills, but it's an upgrade.

Not like it used to be. I was living here when the first Trader Joe's opened.
My parents went gazoonga over Trader Joe's when it first appeared.
But as my mother pointed out, it was pretty much the same as Vicente Foods, which was right down the street on the corner of North Bundy and San Vicente.

I'm in and out in no time.

Not to mention the scenery upgrade.

No commoner supermarkets for you?

Not when I am in California... I am a snob.

Here in New Zealand they are a bunch of sheep loving hicks... we have general supermarkets like Ralph's or Albertsons....

"I avoid ORGANIC!!11!! products. I don't get Trader Joe's."

Gotta be a joke. Might as well be, "I avoid guns and I don't understand gun ranges". Yeah, no ****. Duh.
