I finished a bottle of port (750 mL) in roughly a week. Is this too fast or too slow?

Discuss.

Depends on what you were mixing it with.

Port of Call:

1 oz gin
1 oz ruby port
¾ oz lemon juice
½ oz cinnamon syrup
tablespoon cranberry preserves

Combine all ingredients in a shaker, add ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass over ice, preferably crushed or smaller/cracked cubes. Garnish with a blackberry, raspberry and mint sprig. Or whatever feels festive.

I drink it straight out of the bottle.

Anyway, finished it in one week. Too fast?

Drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle before you turn it up!

Nah, that's only about 6 servings. You can probably push it up to 3 bottles/week before I'd start wondering.

I try to pace myself, but still finish a quart of scotch in about 10-14 days. Way too quick IMO. I rarely keep any in the house for that reason

I don't think it's excessive. It's not nothing, but it's hardly a serving a day. You can always work to make sure you follow certain rules (defined by yourself only). This means you are in control. If you can't follow your own guidelines, then you have a problem. Sounds like you enjoy a drink, but aren't getting trashed to the point of concern.

Thanks to all for replying.

Anything more than a hour is too slow

Interesting that you don't know the answer to that at 39 years of age. Are you having a bad reaction? Asian people often genetically lack an enzyme needed to break down alcohol, which can cause flushing of the skin, and feeling inebriated when drinking moderately.

Otherwise red wine (port is extremely high alcohol level red wine) is considered good for a person with moderate use....one glass a day....which is well over a bottle a week.
If you have bad reactions maybe change to a nice bordeaux or cabernet. Same glass, less alcohol.

I drink very, very, very rarely. And on the rare occasion that I do drink, I don't discuss it with my friends.

No, no bad reaction. Never heard of the Asian thing either, but as a rule, I can tolerate alcohol quite well.

I actually like red wine (and white, too). But I prefer something sweet, which is why I chose port. But if red wine is all I've got, I won't say no to it.

I never say no to a good red wine! I do drink more than 750 ml a week however...

I heard that its actually good for your heart. But only if it's "real" red wine.
