You are in fine health, you can eat what ever you want, anything you request is yours ....but this is your last meal....there no doubt about that......

WHADDYA WANT?

Me: The best German country bread which includes rye and looks almost burnt, Dannish Butter, Radishes with Ghost Pepper Salt, and at least three masses of good beer.

What Say U?

  • Lagavulin 16
  • Rabbit terrine
  • Sauteed divers scallops over spinach with caramelized onions, pine nuts and morels tossed in 50+ year aged balsamic vinegar (salad)
  • Truffled mac and cheese
  • Moroccan spiced rack of American lamb with a side of "collards a la Xelor"
  • White burgundy
  • Cabernet sauvignon
  • Peach and raspberry sorbet drizzled with Cointreau
  • Veuve Clicquot Grande Dame

Great question. The absolute best meal I ever had was as Susur Lee's restaurant in Toronto about a dozen or more years ago. It was one of those deals where you pay a whole lot of money and they feed you for the next two hours. It was seven courses plus dessert and each course had at least two or three components to it in a small plate type of arrangement. The seven my wife had were different than the seven I had. It was gourmet Japanese at its finest.

I would be happy with that for a last meal.

Last meal and still going to go with a cheap scotch? At least get the 21

A couple of Tuna fish sandwiches with crispy lettuce and a ice cold Coke.

Pretty simple.

I don't know. There's a lot of different options. Something campy and nostalgic like tuna fish salad sandwiches with cheetos and a soda sounds good --or grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly. If I want something campy as well, maybe a pot roast or beef stew with mashed potatoes.

Or just a simple spread of hummus, baba, ful madames, kibbi, labneh, makdous, and tabouli with pita and sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, olives, and feta.

If I feel like something more ostentatious, I'd go for sushi and some nigori sake. Full spread --salmon, toro tuna, mackerel, yellowtail, unagi, uni, ika, ikura, tako, and an umebushi roll.

Or maybe I'd want a curry (murgh makhani) or a khoresh (fasenjoon) and pulao/polo.

For my last meal? Probably my mom's lasagna.

My mother's version of Babi Pangang, delicious, damned, now I want to make babi pangang. The only bad thing it takes several hours (and I do mean hours) to make. Ah well, we bought the shop version today so I will have to do with that. But yes, my last meal, my moms babi pangang

How long do I have to eat it? I mean, if there's no time limit then I will likely have a few extra courses.

Baked leg of lamb with rosemary gravy; baked potatoes (a lot of them) covered in butter and salt; baked carrot, pumpkin and sweet potato; steamed peas, beans, cauliflower, broccoli and corn. Followed by a big slice of cheesecake. I don't do drugs, so no alcohol....water, I think.

A good first class tuna or PBJ sandwhich is always better than a mediocre steak.

Lamb chops or duck a l'orange. I would wash it down with Bolivian Mocochinchi.

Homemade Mocochinchi - Bolivian Peach Cider Recipe

Aged ribeye steak- burnt outside, raw inside. Fries in duck fat. Lobster with lemon butter sauce and garlic aioli. Caesar salad with apple wood smoked bacon. Warm German black bread with French cream butter. Any decent red wine will do (not fussy about that). Pecan pie a la mode and blueberry cheesecake for dessert.

If I'm in fine health, this being my last meal implies I'll soon die, probably by execution. So I want ambrosia (no, not the fruit salad).

A sliced fresh ripe Georgia peach, followed by pan fried filleted fresh caught trout in olive oil and lots of garlic and sweet onions, wild greens sautéed in olive oil with garlic, some raw green onions, home fries with black pepper, thick lightly toasted slices of thick crusted whole grain chewy peasant bread with Irish butter, a bottle or two of Pinot Gris, a scoop of double dutch chocolate ice cream over fresh blueberry pie and an extra strong large mug of coffee sweetened with a bit of brandy and a touch of heavy cream. A nap.

My grandmothers potato dumplings and sauerkraut. (polish dish)

I have not had this in over 50 years.

What I want for my "last meal" isn't about whether any dish/drink is inexpensive or not; it's about what I food/libation I most enjoy.

Lagavulin 16 is the whiskey I prefer "head and shoulders" above any other, so it's the one I want for any meal. The same rationale applies to the Grande Dame; I like Ponsardin too, but I like Grande Dame better.

FWIW re: the drinks accompanying my "last meal," I can specify a brand of whiskey and champagne because re: them I have clear favorites. In contrast, there are several cabernet sauvignons and white burgundies I like but among the ones I like, I haven't a clear favorite; thus I didn't designate any specific one. Too, I'd have specified water were it any meal but my "last."

based on the premise of the meal, i believe everyone receives a nap

There's nothing worse than a poorly cooked steak. Although I have to be honest, a steak has never been my go-to fancy food. Give me a good nagiri sushi over steak, any day.

I am in complete agreement with that.

I want to be conscious when I depart, the nap first so I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Well, if I'm going to be executed right after just hand me 1-1.25 liters of 23 year Pappy Van Winkle.

Maybe some weed and morphine to boot. Hell, between the first and third I might take care of things for them, save 'em the trouble.

Being flayed alive is worse than a poorly cooked steak, I'll wager.
