Coffee Talk.

I don't know why I never bothered trying it all the times I was down in NOLA, it was everywhere.
So, if you drink coffee with chicory in it, you might use less sweetener, like sugar or something else, I take it?
I use a small amount of artificial sweetener in coffee and always have, just to cut the edge a wee bit but I can't use sugar because I am diabetic.

I guess I'll go buy a small can of Luzianne, the famous New Orleans style coffee - with CHICORY in it and give it a try.
I've been hearing about Luzianne ever since I was a wee tyke.

I like ordering (or getting at my HEB Central Market) the none big brands. Makes for good joe.

Hubs and I just got back from a nice, relaxing trip in the north Georgia mountains. About 2 miles outside of Helen, there's a coffee shop on the left-hand side of the road. Excellent little coffee shop, with several different kinds of coffees, pastries, etc.

I ordered this one cup - don't even remember what the flavor was, but it was $5 for a cup (french pressed). It was good. Just good. Nothing spectacular. Nothing justifying that price. I told my husband that I'd rather have just had a nice cup of Dunkin' Donuts regular. I haven't found coffee yet as much as I like Dunkin' Donuts regular, and before I was diagnosed with afib, I was a coffee fiend.

I just wish I could recreate the taste you get in the store, at home. I've used the coffee, I've used the creamer, and it still doesn't taste the same.

Pretty much the same, not able to fully replicate the flavor... but I continue to buy the small 8oz bags at the grocery store, since it really does seem to have less acid in it, or at least that's what my stomach tells me. I'll hit and grab the local DD whenever I can, and glory in the flavor for that day.

I'll not drink Starbucks, the stuff is just to acidic for me. If you want her hair curled, there's this coffee place in SFO airport that their breakfast blend would fuel a race car. 12, count 'em 12, little liquid creamer cups and the stuff didn't change color. Don't remember the name of the place at the moment, I avoid it like the plague....

I'm not a fan of Starbucks, either. Too strong. Like they roast the beans way too long - even the lighter roasts are too strong.

Try the new Blonde Roasts.....they barely taste like coffee at all.

I've observed the same thing. Dunkin Donuts in store is excellent. Dunkin Donuts beans are not.

The taste is so different I've come to conclude that they are not the same blend.

My coffee comes from a couple internet companies specializing in single source coffee, or Costco, which, like most things Costco, is excellent.

No - I know. I've tried to grind my own beans. I've tried pre-ground. I've used their creamer. I've used distilled water. I've done everything I know to do and I just can't recreate it.

And I don't have a Costco nearby. :(

No Costco? Bummer. A good internet source is blue macaw. Good coffee, fair prices. If you are on their email list, they sometimes run specials.

Yeah, the closest CostCo is an hour away, and I don't think I'd utilize it enough to justify the yearly fee. I do have a Sam's Club here in town, and they are pretty good. Not CostCo good, but good. I justify their fee because I live right here, and can run in and get a couple of the best ribeyes I've had without too much drama.

Will look into blue macaw. Thanks!

I don't like starbucks cause their coffee always sucks. And their strongest coffee can't compare to 0500 midrats coffee that's been brewing and sloshing for 3 months of deployment. Maybe it's the fact they never change out the coffee, just keep adding more or maybe the ships motion.. personally coffee tastes off if it doesn't have a little JP-5 in it.

Yeah, I have no idea of what you just said.

Just remember ed the name... Spinelli's. Don't know if it's still there or not.

The best coffee I've brewed in years I get at Costco- Mayorga.

Late night Ship board Navy coffee. JP-5 is aviation fuel that "leaks" into the drinking water, or so the joke goes.

I sometimes go to the local 7-11 for coffee, not very frequently or anything, and I always put in 6 of those little containers (not sure what to call them) of hazelnut-flavoured creamers. Yummy. I also have instant coffee at home, however due to the fact I am almost always sans cream or milk, I usually drink it black. Sometimes I also put sugar in it but lately I have been trying not to, because someone told me that sugar is just "legalized poison".

I like to rotate my coffee choices after I finish each bag so I don't get tired of the same brew. All are dark roasts which I add a bit of sugar and half and half. :)

Peets Coffee, it's Uzuri African Blend, Italian Roast and French Roast.
Kicking Horse Coffee, it's the Kick Ass blend.
Death Wish Coffee, it's the Valhalla Blend and Death Wish blend.

I had bought a huge bag of fresh roasted, Colombian - valle del cauca, organic beans. They got misplaced awhile back, and I just recently found them over a year, or so later. The Coffee snob says I should just get fresh, but the person that doesn't waste food tells me I should use them. They were never opened whole beans, so I assume they would be fine. The bitterness they gain with age I could probably offset with sweetener.
