The entire concept of McDonald’s serving salad has always seemed wrong and unnatural, but now you have a health reason to only ever eat Big Macs: 163 people in 10 states have been made ill by salad contaminated with fecal matter. That’s poop. Your salad has poop on it.

It’s not just a mild stomach bug, either. The Food and Drug Administration has said that the problem is caused by the Cyclospora parasite. While healthy individuals should recover from a cyclospora infection without treatment, patients with weakened immune systems can be at a higher risk, and three people have been reported hospitalized so far.
I havent eaten at MCD in months and I usually just order the egg and sausage McMuffin. But this news.. yeech.

I see the ready made salads in which I don't buy. You never know how old they are. I stick with the Quarter Pounder w/out cheese and survive.

Why is this even noteworthy?

Mistakes happen. It sucks when they happen to oneself. But 163 errantly produced/processed salads out of 170M instances of actually producing salads are not worthy of mentioning on a national level. Unless one is among the 163, it's not even something to talk about.

One of the public's concerns over Brexit is the fact that UK/EU food regulation is much stricter than the US. The emphasis here is on cleanliness, and minimising contamination throughout the food production process (without reliance on antibiotics) wheres the US seems to have permissible levels of contamination, then the meat is doused in chlorine at the last moment to kill off the bugs. Nobody in Britain wants that, but we'll be too small a market to demand our present standards from the US producers we'll be forced to use.

Not to overdo the drama, but Rattus Norvegicus is believed to be the carrier of the Black Death/bubonic plague in the 14th century!

Shouldn't that be "McDonalds tainted poop"?

Not any more, other perhaps than by folks who don't keep current on such things. I suggest you read this from the PNAS of January of this year:

That'll teach me! I admit I haven't considered the vector of plague infection might have changed since my 1960's schooldays! :3oops::lol:

No problem.

Plus, I think as of last December, the prevailing findings supported the notion that it was the fleas that carried the pathogen and the rats (and other animals) carried the fleas. I certainly don't expect that one sit around waiting for the latest news on bubonic plague. LOL

Wait you mean they serve food that was not already poop?

You're dropping context. They mean tainted with bad poop. Most poop is harmless if properly cooked.

;)

I think it's a good idea to stick to meat/poultry/fish and avoid anything with veggies when one goes out to eat. Most restaurants are way too busy to do a thorough washing of their vegetables.

It becomes a question of how much is McDonalds willing to spend to placate the Food Nazies and thus stay on the right side of the PC Line?

When they failed at the job any ways, because the salads have more calories than the Food Nazies want to see.

We used to poop better?

There was a song for this recipe called "Poop Salad Annie". ALL EMPLOYEES MUST WASH THEIR HAND BEFORE RETURNING TO WORK (not really)
