I may be wrong, but DD doesn't make a blueberry donut. A muffin perhaps, but not a donut that I recall.

They make a Blueberry donut. Called a 'blueberry cake' donut. They use to make a cherry donut too. But they phase that out a long time ago.

They actually do. At least according to their website. We also have a Krispy Kreme somewhere around here so I suppose it could have come from there too.

You are correct, the Dunkins by me no longer serve/sell them, once bagels came onboard they limited the donut flavors down to the most popular in that region, they are not on the menus of the stores I shop in.

I can't remember the last time I had a donut. But when I was eating them, it was Dunkin' because that was the only chain in my part of the country. In college, I dated a girl for a while and after a date, I'd stop for a donut and coffee nightcap on my way home. I happened to mention it to her and she started making me stop before I dropped her off. :lamo

Vote and tell us why! I'm not including the mom and pop stores because this is a nationwide/international poll.

I kind of voted none of the above because regional chain Ducks Donuts is better, but of the choices Krispy Kreme is what I grew up with and still love. One of the best desserts on earth is to take a donut, lightly fry it in a pan, kind of mash it a little bit to crisp up the outside, take it out of the pan and while still hot put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. I haven't had it in forever but it's a favorite of mine.

Here in Canada it's hand's-down Tim Hortons, but for me and I suspect nearly everyone else that's more about the coffee than the donuts. Donuts come and go- some are dolled up and all sweet chocolate and cream, others are firmly traditional and solid sweet dough with a touch of decoration but the coffee transcends. The coffee rules.

i like any doughnut from wherever, which is part of why i eat a lot fewer doughnuts than i used to. same thing with milkshakes. and peanut butter.

Krispy Kreme is the only correct answer.

Winchells....not because of any real donut superiority.

Good memories; When I was still a kid, my father would sometimes work night shifts and get home about 4 Am....He would wake me and we would go grocery shopping early in the mornings at Rainbow Foods...a 24 hour Grocery store in Minnesota.

On the way home we always stopped at Winchells Donuts; We always got the same thing, I got a "Donut on a stick" and Apple juice, and he got coffee and an apple fritter.

He passed away years ago, but I treasure those moments and memories, and have made it a point to occasionally get my kids up early and do the same...oddly enough, they don't seem to mind.

Nothing beats Duck Donuts, they make them fresh to order in front of you. It's like always catching Krispy Kreme when the fresh batch light is on.

Their Chocolate Bacon w/ syrup is to die for.

my three uncles returned to their upstate SC hometown after the war to launch the doughnut diner
they had traveled to NC and negotiated the purchase of the Krispy Kreme recipe for $100 (in 1955 money)
as a 4/5 year old, when in town for a family visit, my job was to dunk the doughnuts into the warm glaze and place each one on a cooling rack
doing so for a very short span earned me both my uncles' approval and the right to eat all of the doughnuts i wanted
so, i agree with you hawkeye; when i see them i really want one and then soon tire of that excessive sugar sensation. the same one that gave me stomach aches as a kid

I lived in Germany for 6 years, they tend to take the sugar down much lower than Americans, I was shocked at first but I got to liking it fast. And the American Super Sweet trend has gotten worse, a lot of these recipes and things you buy in the store are much higher in sugar than they were in the 60's and 70's. My wife bought some Angel Food Cake from Kroger that is so damn sweet I cant eat it, I have no idea why anyone would want to......if I want all sugar like this I buy Cotton Candy.

In my catering I take the sugar down about 20% on almost all of the recipes I use for desserts....people talk about how unusually good my products are.

I strongly prefer KK, and like others, I'm only aware of KK and DD as go donut chains.

I was twelve years-old, give or take, the last time I at a DD donut. I didn't like the cakeyness of it and I didn't care for it not being glazed all over, so I never tried one again.

One of my favorite "quick and easy" desserts is a KK chocolate glazed donut with a scoop of sorbet -- peach, raspberry, lychee, lemon, blueberry, strawberry, etc. -- sitting in the hole. I've served it to friends by spooning liqueur of their choice or syrup (chocolate, maple or otherwise) over it.

The first time I did that it was improvised out of necessity, so to speak. A few friends popped over and I had an impromptu dinner party, but all I had for dessert -- I wasn't expecting company for dinner and I don't otherwise eat dessert besides fresh fruit -- were KK donuts I'd bought on a whim, fresh fruit and some peach sorbet I'd made.

I put pancake syrup, a few liqueurs and melted chocolate on the table, put the donuts on plates, scooped in the sorbet, and told everyone to put whatever sauce suited them on top or not. Some did, some didn't and I quartered mine and tried it without sauce and had the other three quarters three ways. FWIW, if you're ever of a mind to try it, go with melted bittersweet chocolate if you can. The reduced sweetness works better since the donut is already glazed and the sorbet (or ice cream is already sweet)...then again, if your tooth is super sweet, go for good ol' Hershey's syrup.

This thread is about donut chains, how many times do I have to tell you that? :hammer:

Look, dude. If I included other, then everyone would vote for it. Mom and pop stores are clearly better, but since no other member of this forum would live near you then the poll and discussion would be pointless.
I "feel" your frustration as goes the "on topic" matter. I have several threads wherein people have managed to discuss just about everything obliquely connected to the actual topic, but not the actual topic.
