alternatives to spam for long term meat storage

Perhaps....bags of beef jerky? Not "canned meat", but it's meat and it's designed to last.

Even beef jerky gets rotten eventually.

I like canned corned beef and spam. Canned goods in general have a long life span. I read something on the news that they opened up 100 year old cans or something like it and it was still edible.

Jerky doesn't last as long as canned meat though.

Yeah, the taste quality might degrade faster, but canned food is the longest-lasting out there.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but I did a bit of googling and found this:

https://www.offthegridnews.com/off-grid-foods/how-to-store-meat-for-years-without-refrigeration/

Towards the end it mentions that canning is the best way to preserve meat long-term

Sems like you could have canned meat without it being Spam. Even if you have to can it yourself.

Edit: Also, what lefty said - there are many more options in the canned meat area than Spam.

Tuna, chicken, salmon, beef, just to name a few.

On a side note, amused by this when I googled for canned meat images:

I actually bought a can for my daughter. Inside is a dismembered stuffed unicorn. Hilarious.

I have seen ration's that are at the century mark, and some pretty close; Most MRE's ( US Military rations ) have a shelf life of up to about 5 years depending on the storage conditions, and the version of the MRE ( some of the very first MRE's were freeze dried).

I have personally eaten a 9 year old MRE, and while "edible", it was not really palatable......food wont do the body much good if you cant muscle it past the gag reflex.

:2sick1:

There's only one food that lasts forever (unless you or something else eats it): honey.
