Foodie experts are predicting that Japanese "dude food"--"ultra-calorific versions of tradition Japanese meals"--will be the next big trend.
From the Daily Mail:
Inspired by the decadent 'dude' junk food craze that has burst onto the dining scene in the last five years, the trend now has an Asian twist, but is no less indulgent.
…This style of eating is inspired by Japanese Izakaya bars: immensely popular casual diners in Japan that serve cheap and cheerful hearty meals that feature a lot of deep-fried morsels.
It's thought more of these bars will open in the UK and the US over the next year as foodies start to eat unhealthier Japanese cuisine, as well as more virtuous dishes such as sushi and miso soup. Japanese 'dude' food set to be 2018's big restaurant trend | Daily Mail Online
Nutritionists and physicians will be watching, if this trend takes off, to see the impact on cardiovascular health. I mean, meat and fried--what could go wrong?
