In Texas breakfast tacos are a way of life (replacing Skoal dips, beer & coffee). As a Texan (the only REAL Americans :) ) if you have not visited a Mexican restaurant yet for breakfast do so. Sample Taco: egg, bacon , potatoes, cheese and refried beans smothered with hot sauce and pico de guio(sp) on the side.

Wow, you wouldn't think there'd be that many Mexicans in New Zealand. I guess the ones in your neighborhood have smiles on their faces. :D

Not one Mexican place within 300 miles...

Home made. I have a pantry full of stock. 50+ cans of beans. Taco shells. Tortillas. Jars of salsa (I often make my own but we eat so much I go jars a lot) and hot sauces. Spices. Freezer full of meats. Always fresh vegies. Onions. Bell peppers. Tomatos. Cilantro. Etc. (Most from garden).

EDIT: Oh. I get it now.

If it wasn't for putting up a pantry full of tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of salsa, I wouldn't go through the hassle of gardening and canning. But without it, my mexican food just wouldn't be the same. Hell, I even started making tortillas from scratch. My likey my mexican food.

Oh man, tortillas from scratch. Mmmmmm. My dad used to make the bomb flour tortillas. And my Nana would make these really thick corn tortillas called "gorditas", that were to die for. I was making corn tortillas out of Masa Harina for a while, I'll hafta take it back up again.

A burrito with chorizo, potatoes, beans, eggs, a smoky hot sauce and sour cream for me, please.

The paper wrapping dripping with glorious red oil in quantities that would lube a 67 Chevy undercarriage....

I got just that once from a Bodega in Monterey Ca.....I sure miss that place..... I lived there three times for a total of 5.5 years.

When I was a teen, a wonderful Mexican neighbor lady would come over and she and Mom would teach each other favorite recipes. We grew a large year round garden and raised beef, chickens and rabbits. I got my early cooking skills back then. Mom used to say that "you may not be able to live like a rich man. But if you learn how to shop, garden and cook, you can eat as well as anybody". I look forward to my turn in the kitchen on weekends and holidays. It can be a real good time to bond with friends and family.

We do breakfast burritos in AZ. Why have a taco you can only get one egg into...maybe? Load up the burrito!

Real breakfast tacos come from trucks or shacks.

I've never had one.

Before my heart troubles two years ago, I was always a traditional American farmer's breakfast kind of guy: eggs, fried potatoes, some kind of meat, biscuits, butter, jelly, etc. There's a hole-in-the-wall cafe less than a mile away that serves exactly that kind of breakfast to the locals (I think they also have those breakfast taco/burrito things, as well)

Since my heart troubles, both the farmer's breakfast and your Mexican breakfast are out of the question. The sodium, alone, would kill me all over again.

Did you? I lived in Sebastopol 100 meters fro Martha's for five years and very close to the corner of Calistoga Rd and Mark West Spring Rd for two more years. Bodega is great. The best though were Willow Wood and the Freestone Bakery!!!

Going to both in a few weeks... cant wait!!!
