Arby's Venison sandwich

If the auto insurers in Virginia could figure out how to harvest road kill and supply Arby’s, new revenue stream!

A cross-section of local trophic levels specific to an animal's chain. There's a forest bacteria sprinkle.

Are there other animals we serve with their food? Birds and corn. But more specific.[/QUOTE

Pig with an apple in it’s snout?

The Arby's nearby is closed for remodeling and will not open until Fall of 2019.
I'm sticking with the large roast beef.

Two years? Who is doing the remodeling, Helen Keller?

What country is the deer meat coming from? I can't believe there enough in the U.S. domestically to supply this even on a limited basis.

Edit: I found it. Semi- domesticated free range elk in New Zealand.

Deer and Elk and the like are like rats in America. Not enough predators to eat them and not enough hunters to shoot them. **** I am still cleaning deer guts out of my undercarriage of my truck and the it was all ready hit when I chipperized him. I see his cousins and other relatives on the side of the road all the bloody time.

Too soon!

My sincere apologies. I figured half a century was enough time ;)

To the topic at hand, I couldn't imagine eating a gamey meat from a fast food restaurant. After having children I've completely lost my taste for gamier meats. My favorite delicacy used to be sweetbreads and just the thought of it makes my stomach turn.

Farm raised deer isn't very gamey. Gaminess is mostly dependent on how the animal was killed with instant kills being far less gamey than, say, bow hunting where the animal secretes a lot of adrenaline before it dies. It's that adrenaline that gives skeletal meat the gaminess. I wouldn't call offal meats "gamey" as I believe he term "gamey" was derived from the difference in taste between a hunted animal's (game) meat due to the adrenaline in the meat and a farm raised animal who usually dies immediately in most butchering methods. All offal tastes different than skeletal meat for various reasons.

My dad was in law enforcement and we used to go to a big cookout with a bunch of hunters on occasion. You could always tell when sampling the various meats who was a bow hunter and who used a rifle... as well as tell the good shooters from the bad.

Dang, should have seen this thread sooner. I love venison.

$30k????

A rip off. Here a license fee, gas money, ammunition assuming you already own a rifle, and creature comforts along with a bit of walking. Good exercise. A good friend is an archer, makes his own equipment. Never fails to bag a take. I've encountered other hunters who use pistols, and one who hunted with a homemade spear. And I know many who hunt on their own lands, foregoing licenses.

Game farms give hunting a bad name. I don't think game farms are the type of deer ranching under discussion. Those that supply meat run multiple herds of 50-300, and cull annually. Game farms run small herds and only cull on hunter demand, gaining age and more trophy heads.

You missed my point completely. Someone here said raising whitetail deer has been tried and failed so there aren't any deer farms to speak of. My point was they are quite common in my area but they are being raised for trophy antlers not meat.

And no I don't condone them and nor am I'm impressed by losers that shoot deer in pens or fenced in areas.

Here's what's raised locally and shot by losers with money to burn. Don't be fooled by the background. It's deceiving.

As a taxidermist that used to take in up 75 deer a year to mount I think I know little about the subject. I now specialize in fish as for me once you'e seen one deer you'e seen them all, and the fish are more of a challenge. I also have 100 lakes in my county alone so I keep plenty busy with the fish.

In my area of the county the wild deer aren't that "gamey" as they feed on corn and beans in the farm fields.

Exactly, it is what an animal feeds on.

These are a limited time item and they are gone when the stores sell out, but they are currently selling venison sandwiches at every Arby's restaurant this weekend.

I had one and it was pretty great for a fast food sandwich. It was about a 4 oz real venison steak on a bun with juniper berry sauce. The sauce was very interesting, kind of a cross between a barbecue and curry sauce. It didn't drown out the taste of venison which is good. It was nicely exotic for a fast food meal and probably better for you since it is lean venison.

Would eat regularly if they sold them regularly.

Hehe, we actually tried them, not bad really, too much pepper but that's just personal taste really.

I can understand how some would find it too peppery, but pepper is one of my favorite flavors so that probably heavily swayed my opinion towards the positive.

I can't see the name of the construction company from the highway since the driveways are blocked with equipment and the property surrounded by fencing. I caught up with two of the workers and said they were offered jobs at other locations without further explanations on why the long closures.
As you may know Dominoes Pizza stores are doing some remodeling as well. Seems like these fast food places are in competition. I hate to imposed since it's sorta personal business but if I see any of them I'll ask.

It would depend on the flavor profile of the meat. I am not a giant fan of juniper berry. I further have had some really good deer meat and some really bad deer meat. I prefer it to be as less gamey as possible. The deer in my area have almost a mutton quality which I find noxious.

I taste the same thing whenever I buy organic, grass-fed ground beef. I probably don't like the true taste of fresh meat.

I wouldn't mind a Dominoes here. Only Pizza Hut here and I like Dominoes better.
