My aunt from AZ (and fervent Arpaio supporter, but thats another story) just flew in for a visit, and she gave my son a box of cactus candy. He was totally confused by it (he is being raised in the 3rd world) and thought he was going to get a mouthful of spines. I had to tell him it was okay to eat. Ive only eaten this no more than twice in my life since its pretty unique and only the people from the Southwest even know about it.

What other local confectioneries have you tried that's only found in your region? Any recommendations?

That's really interesting. Is cactus candy a hard candy or a chewy candy? I'm guessing cinnamon or cherry flavored?

Minnesota is home to Pearsons Candy factory......I don't know how much of it makes its way out of our regions, but Pearsons is known for Salted Nut Rolls, Mint Patties, and many other treats....but it is most known in Minnesota for the "Nut Goodie".

Its within walking distance from my home.

Salt water taffy. From the south, along the coast. I always get it fresh when I go to myrtle beach.

CT is home to the Pez factory. But I think everyone everywhere knows about that stuff.

Soft, like a gummy bear. The taste is akin to a cross between grape and orange jellied fruit.

Do you think they make it from prickly pears? That's what they cactus fruit in FL.

I was in Pennsylvania once and they had this chocolate called HERSHEY bars. Pretty good stuff. They even had some streetlights made in the shape of some of the product.

If people ever get out that way - its worth trying.
