Imagine a food that is overloaded with omega-6 fatty acids and contributes to heart disease. Imagine a food that is also linked to declining testosterone levels. Now imagine that it's touted as healthy, pushing massive increases in consumption over the past few decades. What food have you imagined?

Soybean oil.

It's not health food. It's toxic, and the only reason that we use it is that it's cheap. Lard and butter are far better for you, but if you buy into the notion that saturated fat is unhealthy, then at least switch to olive oil. As for vegetable oils, especially soybean oil, just say no.

They're turning everyone into a woman!!11!!

Can I ever have a thread that you don't spam up with sarcastic comments?

I object to soy because it's a top 5 or better gmo monoculture. Not because absurd doses over long periods of time might cause cramps.

Was that all that I said? It was one sentence in my post and you think it's my entire point. You don't think it's real, then fine, but there's no arguing the omega 6 content.

Soy gay???

There is no conclusive evidence at all that the phytoestrogens in soy reduce testosterone production or increase body fat percentage.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20378106

There are also numerous health benefits to including some soy in your diet such as increased heart health, lower risk of prostate cancers, and reduced osteoporosis.

If you are worried about lower testosterone levels, the first thing you should do is maintain a healthy weight. The higher your body fat percentage, the higher you estradiol levels due to increased aromatisation of testosterone.

The more common claim that I've heard is that they are estrogen mimicking compounds.

Yet soybean oil is incredibly rich in omega-6. How is that heart, or anything healthy?

That is absolutely true. Obesity is a large contributor to declining male fertility.

Science doesn't know yet if phytoextrogens actually mimic estrogen in the body though. All the available evidence thus far suggests that at most it just offsets some of the bodies own estrogen production by latching on the the same receptors. Even men need some estrogen. If estradiol levels in a man fall below 20 pg/ml, you can have bone loss as well sexual dysfunction. If it falls well below that, you can have joint damage over time due too little fluid in the joints.

Just because a lot of soybean oil is bad for you (as are the majority of refined vegetable oils), does not mean that soy itself is bad for you.

**** soy, unless you're going to prepare it the way the Japanese do.

Soy milk is bull****, the soy bean sucks, American males don't need any more estrogen.

I view the soybean as the communists bean of choice.

I figured a guy with a name like Spartacus would be skeptical of soy.

This doesn't mean that we should flood our bodies with estrogen mimicking compounds.

Just because a lot of french fries are bad for you, does not mean that french fries by itself is bad for you.
