Food Almost Everyone Likes but You Don't

I have had some really great steaks and alot of blah steaks

The best were done at a friends bbq he had a few years in a row. Generally the best flavor is from the fat

only boiling water is easier to prepare than a grilled steak

no degree of good cooking will overcome the deficiency of a bad piece of meat

I don't know. I was once visiting a friend. His wife wasn't yet home and he was starting dinner. He had two beautiful steaks... and popped them in the microwave to cook them.

Just my opinion, but uber lean steaks are hard to cook and get right. Plus, they're never as tasteful as a steak with a decent amount of fat. Totally agree, the best flavor comes from the fat.

Beer. I no longer like beer. Now, granted, a hot day and a cold beer, not a bad combination. But, as for drinking beer on the regular or preferring it over say...uh, water--not so much. I grew out of beer, that would probably be the best way to put it.

That's funny. About 5-7 years ago I started losing my taste for beer, too. I'll still have on eon occasion, it doesn't repulse me or anything, but if I have a choice now I'd rather have something else.

Even when I did like beer, it was never a "thirst quencher" for me. If I were really thirsty on a hot day I'd always rather have had a cold water or a Gatorade.

I never did like beer. From my very first sip, it fell into the "would gag a maggot" category.

all freshwater fish and seafood
coffee
cottage cheese
nuts
grapefruit
oranges
eggs alone - without meat on the side
lite beer
radishes
beets
yogurt
prunes
lima beans
okra
buttermilk
and likely many more items i cannot recall at this moment

You poor thing. I love all of it.
I don't like battered fish, esp when it isn't fresh from the fryer, or other stuff that is overly manipulated.

I don't get how some people can cut up a fried egg and eat it alone. The only way I can eat an over-easy egg is to mix it into my hash browns. Then it's great, but not alone.

pulled pork or any "pulled" meat. i've tried to like it, and i'll probably give it another shot next time it's served. however, it's like eating a barbecue soaked dishrag.

and, if i'm being honest, steak. i've had some that i like, but it's generally the exception rather than the rule. i like cheese steak sandwiches and that kind of thing, but a big hunk of steak requires a lot of A1 for me to do anything with it. i also find rare meat utterly disgusting, so i cook / order steak medium well to well done. maybe that's part of the problem.
The bolded might be possible, or at least part of the problem.

I won't eat a steak cooked any more than med-rare. And it needs to be pretty well seasoned, including well salted. It's gotta' have salt. And proper aging don't hurt either; it beings out tang-ness.

You might consider trying this stuff below, before tossing a steak on the grill. It comes closest to the seasoning I used to do individually, back in the day. If you can at least get to the point of eating your steak "med" - that is "slightly pink" - using that seasoning, and grilled over charcoal, you might change your mind.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! MY EYES!!! MY EYES!!!!!

I only rarely eat steak, but when I do, I order it 'blue' or partially raw on the inside, and it's always best to go to the pro's who really know what they're doing and concentrate primarily on rib eyes and the like.

Ribeye is the best. I brush with bourbon (gives it a great crust), then season it and let it sit in the fridge uncovered to let it dry a few hours. Sear, continue grilling to barely medium and resting it before consuming.

I like raw apples if they're on the tart side, like Granny Smith's, but hate cooked apples in any shaps or form...apple pie, applesauce, fried apples...yuck....

I don't know if you use YouTube much, but these guys do really good stuff.

They even did a peanut butter steak that didn't look half bad.

Chocolate. I don't actively hate it, but I've just never 'got it'. Tastes like meh.

American chocolate sucks.

Lol no-one likes their first sip of beer.

What happens is you get peer pressured into drinking it so you trick yourself into enjoying it, then hey, one day you actually do enjoy it. It's magic.

thanks for the recommendation. i'll probably give that a shot.

My wife hates hotdogs. I love 'em. She hates them. It's not even a "yuck, I won't eat scrap meat shoved into pig guts" thing with her. She just does not like hotdogs, wouldn't eat them even if they were made of prime cuts.

Today, someone brought in a watermelon. I told the guy in the office next to me. He said, "No thanks." Apparently he hates watermelon. I'm like, "Who the F hates watermelon?"

So, I had a moment and thought about it. What does everyone like that I hate? Can't think of anything off the bat. I pretty much like everything. Well, maybe everything. I'm not a big fan of catfish. But, that's not really one of those "everyone but me likes this crap" kind of foods.

Passionfruit. It is literally the only fruit I have ever eaten that I don't like, and I've eaten damn near every fruit in existence. It's my favorite food group. I eat so much of it that it's sort of a concern for my sugar levels.

But I hate passionfruit. It tastes like mango if it had been regurgitated at the end of a seafood and cocktail party, to me. If there is even a drop of passionfruit in a dessert, I can taste it, and it ruins the entire thing.

I will never understand why. I just hate it.

had to look that one up, but i recognized it. i was brought a steak cooked that way by accident, and i had to send it back. i was cool about the mistake and tipped well. in this chart, i think that medium is as far as i could go when it comes to not fully cooked.

Sorry. :2razz:

I used to prefer (blood) rare to med rare. Now I prefer med rare to medium, depending on the cut.

only took me 64+ years to find an appreciation for scotch

Pastries that are bought off the bread racks. First very high sugar content and they all taste like they were mad three weeks ago especially those with white frosting.

Yogurt. Onions that aren't carmelized or otherwise cooked pretty long. Lemon meringue pie. Buffalo wings (really the sauce more than the chicken). Pepperoni on pizza. Most things on Chinese takeout menus. Scrambled eggs (when not in a sandwich or something) and a lot more probably

Potatoes and hazelnuts. In Belgium we have a lot of praline shops. Too many of the pralines are filled with hazelnuts. I hate that.
