Botulism thrives in low oxygen, so it was likely in the cheese, which means the cheese was not held at a high enough temp.

I'm sure they can add something to it to kill those little bugs. It can't make that stuff any more nasty than it already is.

Botulism is probably the only earth bound organism that CAN live in gas station nacho cheese. Which, when you think about it...is disgusting.

We've got a chain down here called QT that actually has a damned good hot dog bar. It's rare to walk into a store that isn't spotless.
 
i am pretty vigilant about food safety. however, i used to love those chef's salads that you could get from vending machines, as well as the sandwiches. i used to watch the machine and buy them within two days of the fill date.
 
Convenience store insurance premiums just went up.
