I have a weakness for delis, and there are times I get a craving to make my own sandwiches so I usually buy the cold cuts by the slice and bring them home to make a sandwich.

My current favorites are turkey ham or pastrami, with some dijon or hot mustard, mayo, lettuce and tomato on whole wheat- I dont buy cheese a lot because its pretty expensive over here. I like pepperoni too, but I prefer to eat them plain, without the bread. Could anyone recommend other types?

I don't eat them often but I have a real weakness for Cuban sandwiches. Doubly so if I happen to be in Ybor City on a warm evening with a beer in hand.

Capocollo, my favorite cold cut by far

If you are a regular deli customer, you can ask them about the meat ends, the leftovers of the big pieces that are too small to make pretty cuts.
Sometimes they will sell them at much lower prices, but it gives you a chance to get a lot of variety.
When I was much poorer and the kids young, we used to go and buy a bag of meat ends and a bag of cheese ends and a loaf of soft
french bread.

For Mother's Day I made my wife eggs florentine - think eggs benedict with an Italian accent. Instead of ham I used prosciutto that I crisped in the oven. And I thought bacon was heaven.

Rare roast beef, but it will be best in the first two days.

That sounds good, I might have to try that.

Ybor city? Good place to get rolled, I lived in tampa 16 years (16 years to long)

We have an office in Tampa that I visit every year. The locals told me the same thing. Being from New York and having spent a fair amount of time hanging out in Harlem and the Bronx I was skeptical about the dangers. Found it down right pleasant though I admit I've probably only seen a small slice of the area.

I'm also large - think football lineman, which I was, and while that's useless against someone who's armed people tend to leave me alone.

I should of added, after the night clubs close, they roll the drunks. Granted, I have not been there in years. I wonder if anyone still makes cigars there? Should have a cigar museum somewhere!

I moved to Arcadia (county pop. 35,000) 6 years ago and don't miss Tampa at all!

Ham at the top for sure.

I like a good ham and bean torta. Take a bolillo bread, crusty large roll type of bread, cut in half then smear it with smashed pinto beans and crumbled queso fresco then add ham, avocado, jalapeno, lettuce, and tomato. Yum, may have to run to the bread store tonight.

Don't know. Still plenty of places to buy cigars there - I had one while sitting in an outdoor cafe kind of place last time I visited - just don't know if they're locally made.

Arcadia looks to be a nice place to live.

corned beef on a nice kaiser roll with spicy mustard, tomato, Swiss cheese , and banana peppers

or what they call the summer special.....which is a BLT but add fresh smoked turkey breast

I used to get smashed in Ybor every weekend, never once had a problem. Gasperilla, just perfect boobs for as far as the eye can see!

No favorite cold cut, I have several, for several different things. I love hot capi, prosciutto, pastrami. Pastrami with eggs and Swiss on a fresh, warm croissant....perfection.

My wife, at Easter, makes quiche kinda thing, but with prosciutto cubes, pepperoni, hot capi, salami chunks...and mozzarella, and oh goodness, it's tasty. Bad for you. But tasty.

It is, most of the economy is seasonal. Agriculture and quite a few big snowbird trailer parks, the summer months are slow.

The peace river is 5 minutes away from my house, world known for fossils, we are known as "bone valley"

Volpi Salami is a favorite of mine. But I'd put that as one of many on an antipasti

As an easy sandwich though get a good hard salami, mini-baguette spread some yellow mustard and fold as many slices as you can fit.

Try Turkey Pastrami, with a little mustard, onion, lettuce, and hot giardiniera (a slice or two of swiss if you can afford it)

I love pastrami. Can't get it here. But I prefer it hot.

If you are in Germany, you will find totally different kinds of Cold cuts. Landjäger are a kind of small Salami and you might want to try a Leberwurst, a Fleischkäse and a Bierwurst. Blutwurst is often eaten cold, but with sauerkraut try it with Leberwurst both hot.

My favorite is Italien. Mortadella either finely sliced without bread or four or five slices with some Parmesan on white bread; maybe with mustard, but that's non-essential.
