The Six Biggest Lies About Eating Meat:

If there's one macronutrient you can't overdo, it's protein. And if there's one type of protein you can't go wrong with, it's meat. Because despite what your vegan hipster coworker keeps telling you, animal protein is the best food for building and maintaining muscle, and it's required for a long and healthy life. But what about all those studies vegans like to quote showing that meat is "bad?" Let's take a closer look.

Foodies of all kinds are bad for your health. Vegans are only slightly more extreme than most.

Have you heard that they've decided that cholesterol in the diet is OK? Yes, all recommendations for restricting dietary cholesterol have been rescinded. All those egg white omelets you ate did you no good at all, at least in terms of reducing your blood cholesterol. Hypercholesterolemia is a problem of metabolic regulation, not a dietary problem. If your cholesterol is high take a statin and don't worry about cholesterol in your diet.

I'm a carnivore to be sure, well, an omnivore at least but I'm not entirely understanding why some seem to want to needle vegans. I mean, I get that some vegans can be obnoxious, militant even :)D) but outside those, why should I or anyone care if someone chooses that for themselves? I think there's enough dietary choices and variety out there for pretty much any diet to be potentially reasonably healthy (or, of course, really, really bad).

What does that mean? Can you translate that into something that makes sense?

Because the sole purpose of LowDown being on DP is to spam us with threads whining about every social group he hates, which is basically everyone.

Everyone that isn't a white conservative male, you mean.

Not to mention, his "science" on this one is highly flawed.

Well, I know what's for supper! I have a seasoned 16 oz ribeye, waiting in a vacuum bag.
I will Sous vide it for 2 hours, and sear it on the grill.

A diet containing meat can be healthy. So can a vegan diet. Granted, it takes a bit more know-how to build a healthy vegan diet because you need more variety than a meat eater does.

You increase your risk of colon cancer substantially by eating red meat due to heme iron:

Furthermore, while dietary cholesterol has little influence on cholesterol levels, saturated fat has a lot of influence on your risk of coronary artery disease (though you should not replace saturated fats with refined carbohydrates like sugars):

Finally, cultures that eat a primarily plant based diet (usually rich in cold water fish as well), like Okinawans, Sardinians, and 7th Day Adventists, live longer.

Yes, you can actually overdo protein. It can mess with your kidneys, among other things.

Scientific illiteracy wants to be your friend. Don't open the door and let it in!

In terms of longevity, the most healthy diets would be a whole foods vegetarian diet (with dairy and eggs), a whole foods flexitairian diet (primarily plant based), or a pescetarian diet.

The worst diets in terms of longevity would be diets that include a lot of processed foods and or red meat.
