Hokitika Wildfoods Festival | West Coast, New Zealand
Hokitika is a small town on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Where every year they hold the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival.

Every year, new wild foods are introduced. From clams to offal, from wasp larvae ice cream to ostrich sandwiches, from whitebait to escargots and shark and scorpions (raw and cooked),
You can try huhu grubs: The huhu is a big beetle endemic to New Zealand. The white larvae are about 7cm long and are found in dead wood.
The Startled Worm Cafe enticed festival visitors with its menu of Chocolate Worm Truffles, Worm Sushi and Worm Dukkha.
Colostrum is a kind of milk that is high in antibodies and protein. It is the milk that is produced by the mammary glands in the late stage of pregnancy, just before the birth. The stand offered several colostrum desserts, for example "Mastitis Mousse", "Colostro-Yummy Cheesecake", or "Colostrum Shots".
there are horse semen shots available, rhubarb champagne, Maybe have a glass of Gorse Flower or Broom Flower wine.
Not to mention the usual assortment of deep fried testicles.
I am just curious to know if any would be tempted to visit and partake of the culinary delights at this festival? And wondering if you have an equivilent in america?

Done properly that would be great, but what I tend to find with moderns is that they are more into what sounds great than what is great (often cause they dont even know quality), and with events like this they are more interested in shocking than anything else so they tend to be pretty crap, usually not worth investing time.

But ya in theory this sounds like a great day.

There is an annual game dinner at a local gun club in CT. They buy and prepare elk, wild boar, rabbit, etc. No larvae, or anything.

There IS a foraging sub culture here, of which I am a part. I hunt wild mushrooms. This past year kinda sucked...I'm hoping for better, this spring. More dryads saddle. They're awesome fried in a pan with a little butter and a touch of salt.
