I have tried several frozen pizzas and would not choose any of them as "good". Freezing food works only with vegetables.

It depends on what your plans are for the food. Frozen pizza, using your example, isn't impressive as a date night meal but when you're stoned out of your gourd and paranoid that the pizza delivery guy is really a cop it's a great thing to have in the freezer.

Agreed. Frozen pizza is like wine from Iowa.

I think a DiGiorno Supreme for $6 is a great deal. I think they taste really good and am also amazed at how good they look coming out of the oven. I'm serious, I think they've spent a lot of time on the visual aspect, because it's a sexy looking pizza.

This. They're nice to keep on hand for a quick meal when you're not exactly trying for something gourmet.

I actually like frozen steaks almost better than the fresh type.

Frozen pizza is a good reason to get stoned. Eh?

;)

Plus, pizza dough is one of the easiest things to make.

I have a cast iron skillet, I've made a basic pizza dough, laid it out real nice in the skillet, loaded it with toppings, and ended up with a ridiculously awesome pan pizza.

Then have you tried a vegetarian pizza?

Keep trying. Our favorite is Palmero's Ultra Thin Crust. We bought a black dimpled pizza sheet from Chuck E Cheeses that we put the pizza on after it's cooked. Keeps the crust crispy. Can't bake on it, but doesn't get the crust soggy. Their toppings are excellent. We'll also doctor a frozen pizza. Add more shredded cheese, sprinkle some extra seasonings; sometimes, if I'm ambitious, I'll add chopped fried bacon or our own sautéed mushrooms...

It's pretty hard yo compare a $7 frozen to a $20 fresh delivered. But it's a lot more convenient and cheaper. We have Lou Malnati's around us. They sell their own deep dish frozen take-out. It's not cheap, but it's like fresh made if you follow their directions.

Been there, done that!

I love the Jenos brand of frozen pizza. It doesn't have that much cheese or toppings on it but the crust is thin, crispy and tasty. jenospizza.jpg

And if you have fresh veggies and shredded cheese on hand, you're in business.

Or a can of pineapple. I know it gets hate but I love it.

If by can of pineapple you mean freshly cooked bacon we are definitely on the same page ;)

I have never had a frozen pizza that I would consider gourmet cuisine, and certainly not as good as a better pizza/Italian restaurant, but really there are some decent options out there these days. Some of them will do quite nicely in a pinch.

And anyone old enough to remember the absolute crap frozen pizzas from the 1970s would be wholly impressed with how much better (relatively, of course) they've gotten.

I have always "fixed them up" with toppings and spices, but these days the pizza's have gotten so bad that they dont fix that well. Back in the day the crust and the sauce would be fine but they would cheap out on the toppings, Tombstone is what I grew up on, they where like that. Eventually they were cheaping out even on that, and now of course they are trying to make them "healthy" by removing fats and trying to go low calorie, which makes them hopeless. Digiorno pizzeria thin is the best of the lot I think.

The late 80's/early 90's fake cheese frozen pizza's were better than what we have now.

Funny I recently fried up some bell peppers and added some freshly shredded cheese to a frozen cheese pizza and it was really good.

The only frozen pizza I enjoy is Stouffer's French Bread Deluxe Pizza.

i can make a lean cuisine pizza taste pretty awesome with just a couple spices / veggies. of course, i'm not picky.

usually, though, the best frozen pizza is reheated restaurant pizza. i preheat the oven to between 350 and 400F, warm up the slice in microwave, and then bake it for like five minutes. generally, it tastes better than fresh unless it's freezer burned. fresh is usually a bit too greasy; the re-bake puts a nice outer crisp on the crust.

If you had a toaster oven you could just toast a few slices the next day.
I love toaster ovens!

i have yet to try one. i suppose that's one to put on the to do list.

I've never had a toaster oven, but the only good way to reheat pizza is in an oven. IOW: microwaves suck.

Homerun Inn

Best out there

Though, I do like Doreen's Sausage & Jalepeno....but I don't know if that's a brand outside Chicago...
