Great wine thread

Texas is a very small player in the wine market. When it comes to premium wines, WA is 2nd only to CA

Last time I was in Oregon Pinot Noir was almost the only grape grown.

I used to live at the mouth of Napa, now live in Socal wine country and make yearly pilgrimage to Paso Robles. Member of six wine clubs.

My two cents.

Very good wine can be had at the wineries. And relatively cheaply. Especially if you are in the market for a case or half case.

Tobin James makes a wide range of wines and I haven't had a clunker yet.

Blends often trump varietals in taste.

Small wineries try harder to win you over. Sometimes an official wine tasting of five samples can turn in to an afternoon of tasting the whole of their offerings and a personal walk though the process with the winemaker.

Just misc. ramblings.

Oh your link means quantity, I am referring to quality. Ca leads the pack because the states armpit has growing conditions that yield exceptional grapes. Texas wines tend to have extremely good growing conditions as well. My favorite wine muscadine actually grows wild all over the us south and is good in any range of it's natural habitat.

If it was a non muscadine, I would say cali first, texas second when it came to taste.

I second the motion on muscadine wine. Damn fine when I had it. My understanding that is what the founding fathers grew for wine until euro rootstock made its way over.

I'm a White Wine fan, so I pretty much always drink Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. The Black Box Pinot is damn good for a boxed wine. IMO the best boxed wine Pinot. And I've tried most of the boxed wines.
