Rice Cookers

This statement elucidates why so many men believe they will despise marriage ...

Compromise is important in a marriage. For example, I like to watch Monday Night Football, but my wife doesn't like Monday Night Football so we compromise. We don't watch Monday Night Football.

Think I am going to pick up one of these after the holidays. Any one have one, have a recommendation for a good one reasonably priced?

So, did you get one?

I can't tell you how my shopping has been curtailed. I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat. But I dnont think I'd get my money's worth. ;)

Not yet. Stupid money has been tight, and is going to be tight for another month or so.

I'm going to get one this weekend.

That is what they are called, I do not have one, and they have exactly jack and **** to do with the ****ing topic of the thread. Do you have anything to say about the topic?

I got a 30 dollar one from Walmart. It cooks a lot of rice and is decent in cleanup and storage. Its the Aroma one. I will link the model I think I have. It looks to be the same one. It isn't gonna do anything fancy, but it cooks rice well enough compared to cooking it in a stove top pan. The only thing I recommend is that you wash the rice to get rid of the starch. I wash it until the water that pours off it is mostly clear. Otherwise, you will get really sticky rice. This is a pretty common notion, so apologies if I am telling you something you already know. I fill up the measuring cup with the rice, pour water into the "bowl" and use a strainer to strain the rice until the water is clear. Usually takes three of four quick rinses. This is the link of the model that is closest to mine.

There are more expensive ones that have more options, but this suites my needs just fine.

I have two of them. It is easier and faster for me to make rice in a covered saucepan on the stove. I haven't used one of our rice cookers in years. No recommendation. Sorry.

I ended up getting the Aroma 8-cup rice cooker. I decided on a smaller one because my wife wasn't completely on board and I was able to get it for about $25. So far I've cooked only one batch and it turned out perfect.

and it always will

the thing to remember about rice is that it contains a nature poison that flourishes with time and cannot be killed with heat

don't make too much, refrigerate promptly and throw out quickly

I just made 1 cup of long grain. The cooker is small and it says to make a max of 2 cups when steaming at the same time which is my intention with this device.

yes that's how I do it too

I love my rice cooker

I do a cup at a time, use the left-overs the next day either by making fried rice or I nuke it and then I freeze it or toss it

right now I am into Basmati...

The curry you mention, is that Japanese style curry rice, aka beef curry? If so, could I get your recipe? Even if it isn't, would still love the recipe if you could.

So here's a Japanese chicken curry, where you can substitute the beef and probably get a good proxy. I've made the chicken version before, and it's really very good. It's not quite like Indian curry, but it's very good.
