The DING DONG because it we nicely chocolaty, did not make a mess, did not melt, and was not tasting like chemicals like the Twinkies and others did after one of the recipe changes during the 80's.

For special occasions the Sno-ball...that sumbitch was over the top in a few different ways.

Yup, the DING DONG.

Why? I can eat one more without feeling a bit nauseous.
With twinkies, if I eat "just one more" I feel like I need to puke.

When I went to Marsh Middle School we had to bring a lunch and eat in homeroom because there was no kitchen in the school (free lunch people got a very not good sack lunch), and I would say on any given day 1/2 had hostess for desert. I almost always had one, plus either a can of jello or pudding, a sandwich, and chips. The milk we elected a putz to go get everyday from the office.

I miss my Hostess JIM JAM. They should bring that one back.

Two round sponge cakes with cream in the middle and strawberry & coconut spread on top.

Disgustingly yummy.

My sister's favorite was the banana flip. Remember that?

Well, I am sure you have yummie things we could not get down south.

I remember in Albany, NY the very first time I had a thick pork chop with Apple sauce!!!!!
and pickled apples on the side.

man, those Up-State new Yorkers sure can do magical things with apples.

Down south all my poke chops were fried in corn meal like our catfish.

Those thick cut poke chops were heaven on the tongue when you have apple sauce with them.

I am getting off track. My apologies, OP.

Pudding pies all the way. It's not even close.

I used to like their fruit pies. I forget what they were called. I doubt they used real fruit though.

When we were kids back in the late Fifties and early Sixties, part of every saturday was going shopping and a good old fashioned ethnic bakery was always visited. So I was raised on some of the best baked goods imaginable. But one of my guilty pleasures was a Hostess Sno Ball - and it used to drive my mother crazy who said it was like eating a sponge.

I have not had one if at least forty years - but I have the memories just the same.

Banana flips were the shiite. If I had to pick a favorite today it would be Raspberry Zingers.

Look at this nostalgic pic. Twinkies today are nothing like this, eh?

BAKERY MANAGER, JIMMY DEWER INVENTED THE TWINKIES IN 1930. THE NAME ITSELF CAME FROM A “TWINKLE TOE SHOES” BILLBOARD HE SAW ON THE WAY TO SHOW OFF HIS IDEA.

Too much real food in the world than to waste my palate on Hostess.

Best part of any lunchbox discovery I ever made.

And I'm not a big chocolate person, either, but I loved those things.

+1

Suzy Qs ftw. Chocolate cake with creamy white filling. They also came two to a pack unless you bought a large box of single wraps.
