Pumpkin sloppy joes

I think that those type of recipes are more ground beef in homemade BBQ sauce than a true sloppy joe (which can be really good, but it isn't a sloppy joe). I like the natural sweetness that comes from the onions and tomato paste. Add in a couple tablespoons of W-sauce and it all comes together very nicely.

I tend to add a little more water to so that it's a bit "sloppier".

that's the problem with vegitarians/vegans. They want to keep saying how they're better than everyone (well vegans more than vegetarians), but they spend all their time trying to recreate the foods they gave up.

If you want a sloppy joe, eat a sloppy joe. If you wants some runny pumpkin gruel, make the recipe above.

Not to mention a lot of their meat rip offs fall under the category of processed food, filled with additives and other garbage.

Why bother calling it sloppy joes? Are we trying to recapture some kind of lost meat eating experience? Own your veganism!

I don't use canned pumpkin. Prefer to bake a pumpkin in the oven and then puree the insides afterward. The flavor is way better.

At thanksgiving when I was a kid, if my great grandmother was visiting, she would literally toss anything canned pumpkin, qand run to the store and buy whole pumpkins. She would make pumpkin pie starting with a whole one shoved in the oven, did it that way until the end.

When they're done right... I've had some that were horrible. Catsup, brown sugar and vinegar over ground beef - not good. Good sloppy joes should be ground beef, onions, bell peppers, w-sauce, tomato paste, garlic, enough water to get the texture right, S&P to taste. It's simple and delicious when done right, when done wrong, it's crap on bread.

Good sloppy joes are sweet, tangy and sour all at the same time. Mustard is actually an ingredient for good sloppy joes, without it it ends up tasting like bbq sauce on beef, also needs bellpeppers and onions.

Mmmm so good, nothing beats making it from scratch. I know it takes way longer, but still!

That is highly debatable.

No it's not. It's a proven fact that the only people who don't like sloppy joes are Communists and Mole-People.

wow, these look great

Pumpkin Sloppy Joes - Catching Seeds

A lot of times the vegan stuff you post sounds really good. This is not one of those times. Just.....no.

That is highly debatable.

Okay, let's debate it. Sloppy Joes are great, I'm right, you're wrong, that's the end of the story.

I guess you were right, that was debatable. Huh. :2wave:

Just for fun, here's the "homemade" Sloppy Joes I made last night...

- hamburger
- bbq sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- sauteed onion
- salt
- pepper
- garlic powder

Probably not 'kosher', but oh well. I intended to put a bit of mustard in, but forgot. Wife doesn't like peppers, so that limits me in a lot of stuff (though on occasion I put some in a dish anyway).

I put it in the oven for a bit while the potatoes were cooking and that reduced it down some. Hence they weren't as "sloppy", but they were still tasty. I liked having the more solid consistency and may do that more often.

Damn you people. Made Sloppy Joes last night just because of this thread. They were good.

Pumpkin!? :lamo

Hamburger bun or Kaiser rolls?

Did something unique this time. I had a sourdough bread bowl I needed to use, so I sliced it, grilled it on both sides, and ate the SJs open-faced.

I love a good sourdough and it was quite tasty.
