Report alleges Hampton Creek faked hundreds of thousands in sales and environmental impact claims | Fox News

Hampton Creek, the San Francisco-based food startup known for its vegan mayo, has been embroiled in controversy since its founding just a few years. After surviving an egg industry plot to put it out of business, the company faced a year-long legal battle with mayonnaise powerhouse Hellman’s and the FDA over its use of the word mayo. In August, a Bloomberg report revealed that the company used undercover agents—known as “Creekers”-- to buy hundreds of jars of its own product Just Mayo and talk up egg-free spread in stores.
Last month, Hampton Creek CEO Josh Tetrick claimed the buyback program was just a quality control measure that only cost the company about $77,000 total. But now, Bloomberg says a company statement shows the company spent more on buybacks in July 2014 ($510,000) than it took in in sales ($472,000).

When you make a product, base it on lies and no one buys it... I guess this is the way to go. Of course, Mayonnaise is one of the least edible items on the planet, good only in a few instances... but still

This amuses.

Not surprising really, a whole lot of pro-vegan propaganda is written by vegans. The recidivism rate is like around 85% so its really just a fad in the end.

I craved Mayo for over a decade, after a cleansing strip down diet that I did for three months I became sensitive to eggs. I recently found a decent egg free vegan brand “Veganaise”. I still crave eggs, what I wouldn’t give to sit down to a breakfast of bacon and eggs or an omelet.

It’s really not the taste of mayo I miss, It’s about all the things that mayo is used for. Until I found a substitute I couldn’t have the simple Tuna or chicken salad sandwich for lunch. How about potato salad or any other summer salads or dressing made with Mayo. How do you make the ultimate Tuna melt without mixing the Tuna with some Mayo?

Tuna salad? Yes. Potato Salad No! Mustard makes the better Potato Salad!
