Mycroft has made some posts that hit home with me.

I'm borderline high blood pressure. I seriously cut back on salt and my BP has definitely dropped a few points. 5 to 10 points on average.
Enough to for sure point directly to salt contributing to higher numbers for me.

So, with that in mind, who's got some good and HONEST low salt/no salt favorites?

I've greatly come to like unsalted peanuts and pretzels now.

It's fairly shocking to cut salt from your diet. You REALLY start to understand just how much salt you've become accustomed to over the years.
So many things I used to eat no longer appeal to me because they are soooooooooooo salty.

When I cook I put no salt in all in the food. I don't notice it as much now when I eat what I cook, but it shows up on my BP numbers.

So what you got? What do you cook, or snack on that's seriously low on salt, or no salt?

I don't eat much salt one way or the other and never have, much preferring very spicy foods. When I cook, everyone goes for the saltshaker and a glass of water or beer.

But I do want lots of salt on hard boiled eggs or cold chicken sandwiches.

Throw all your salt away. Use black pepper and red pepper flakes instead if you want to season your food. Dont eat anything canned or prepackaged. Done.

It's pretty easy to avoid too much salt. Avoid processed foods. Fast foods. Restaurant foods. A bowl of restaurant soup can put someone with heart failure into the ER. A Big Mac has 1020 grams of sodium. Daily allowance is 2400 as an example.

When I had to watch salt intake, I roasted lots of chickens. If you buy the store rotisserie ones, they're brined and contain lots of salt. Used a lot of Mrs Dash lemon pepper seasoning in place of salt. Added it at the table.

We're lucky today, though. There are a wider and wider variety of no-salt foods available at the supermarket. Use other spices to jack em up. Experiment.

Google no or low salt foods. You'll get more ideas you ever though of.

If you're overweight, lose some of it and your BP will reward you. If you have really high blood pressure, take Doctor meds until you can get it under control. The bottom number is as important as the top one. The bottom number shows your bp when your heart's at rest. It really shouldn't be over 90. Many doc's use 140 for the top number as being in acceptable range. Depending on your age, high blood pressure puts you at serious risk of stroke. BP meds aren't expensive and have few side effects. You can buy a wrist cuff at Walgreen's for $40 or so. Very convenient to use, accurate and let you monitor your bp on a regular basis. Keeps one motivated to eat right.

You'll used to less salt. Sounds like you're well on that road. It's addictive. You're suffering mild withdrawal. ;)

Shop the produce department. Make stuff from scratch. Oh, vinegar is often a good substitute for salt. Experiment.

Good luck!
