1) Chili Beef

2) Split Pea

3) Bean with Bacon

4) Chicken with Stars

5) Chunky Sirloin Burger.

Pretty sure I flunk the "All-Amercan" test by not having Tomato on my list.

Split pea and tomato soups are gross.

Do I need to explain the rules of this game?

You will be happy to know that I think they may have discontinued the split pea. Wife has been bringing home green pea soup, where the peas are not dried and left partly whole. Now it is all wizzed up. Like in a blender.

1. potato
2. clam chowder
3. beef with vegetable and barley
4. tomato
5. chunky creamy chicken and dumplings

family size cream of chicken soup
after boiling and deboning your bird add the large can of cream of chicken to the mix. next, throw the dumplings/pastry strips into the boil until they are fully done, then add back the picked chicken. season with salt and pepper to taste. "instant" chicken and dumplings, fit to eat

onion soup
hot italian sausage. take off casing, and fry the sausage with double that amount of ground beef, until lightly browned. drain off and dispose any fat. cut up onions, garlic, and green peppers, fry until translucent in another pan. then add to your hamburger/sausage mixture. add tomato sauce, however many cans you need to cover the meat.
mix well, now add slowly: chili powder and red crushed peppers. mix in the can(s) of onion soup
continue to cook slowly and add more spices as needed

cream of celery soup
start with two cans of green beans, drained into a casserole dish. add to that the cream of celery soup. stir into that a half cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. top with contents of a can of fresh fried onions and another half cup of sharp cheddar. bake at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted and the onions begin to brown

cream of mushroom soup
cook a pot of rice in the rice cooker. meanwhile, braise pork tenderloin in an oven safe pan. top with cream of mushroom soup and bake at 325 degrees until juices run clear. place a bed of rice in the plate and top with the pork and gravy

tomato soup
two pieces of bread, buttered on the outside with dukes mayo on the inside. a light dab of mustard smeared into the mayo. between this bread add whatever cheese you have in the fridge - plenty of it. place on skillet with melted butter until one side is brown. add more butter to the pan and grill the other side. meanwhile place a pot of tomato soup with half can of added water on the stove to reach a boil. season to taste with salt and pepper. enjoy with the grilled cheese sandwich

Back in the day, I loved Bean with Bacon, Tomato, Chunky Sirloin Burger and others. But that was before I almost died.

Come to think of it, those soups probably contributed to me almost dying...they have enormous amounts of salt in them. Just not healthy at all.

Campbell Tomato & Rice was okay but Progresso Tomato (rice added on site) with a couple of bacon sandwiches is a wonderfully fulfilling experience.
Campbell Chicken & Rice was okay too.

As a kid I loved Chicken Noodle and Chicken with Rice. Newly married I discovered the culinary uses for Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken.

My wife and I have had a running gag for over 40 years where we make cream of Tomato with half and half, make our own rice, dice some onions and we call it Tomato (pronounce it as toe -ham -toe) Deluxe.

When I was a kid I would take chicken noodle, add a lot of W sauce, and some red pepper flakes. Have not done it in 30 years but it was a thing for sure.

I am going to nominate cream of mushroom for the most ruined recipe. Last cans had only a few specks of mushroom in the entire can, and the flavor of the paste is not what it used to be either.

Salt is not a problem for most people ya know. I get more offended at the price they get for recipes that have generally been cheapened many times since the 70's. Bean with Bacon and spit pea seemed to be the last of the good ones. I think they did add salt as they removed flavoring ingredients, and now they are also cutting back on the salt which leaves these cans of soup not very tasty most of the time. I dont eat any of them without fixing anymore.

I'm not sold. You can buy a blood pressure cuff for $25, or check it at most drug stores, including Walmart and many grocery stores. Anyone with Internet or TV knows that overuse of salt leads to elevated blood pressure, and that processed foods are high in salt

If the Campbell soups don't taste salty to you, I would wager that it's probably due to you over salting regular food. If you were already on a low salt diet, the soups in question would likely taste "over salted".

Then there are nutritional labels on the candidate.

You have to be your own health advocate.

You are playing a fad, and you should know by now how these food fads tend to turn out...sold as fact when the science is not there for that conclusion, latter to be found wrong when science is actually allowed to investigate. .

Current guidelines recommend a daily maximum of 2.3 grams of sodium a day — the amount found in a teaspoon of salt — for most people, and less for the older people or those with hypertension.

Researchers reviewed four observational studies that included 133,118 people who were followed for an average of four years. The scientists took blood pressure readings, and estimated sodium consumption by urinalysis. The review is in The Lancet.

Among 69,559 people without hypertension, consuming more than seven grams of sodium daily did not increase the risk for disease or death, but those who ate less than three grams had a 26 percent increased risk for death or for cardiovascular events like heart disease and stroke, compared with those who consumed four to five grams a day.

In people with high blood pressure, consuming more than seven grams a day increased the risk by 23 percent, but consuming less than three grams increased the risk by 34 percent, compared with those who ate four to five grams a day

Salt makes food taste good. Good food is a big part of a good life say I. Add as much salt as you think the food needs is my advice.

I want to assure you I am very familiar with determining salt content. I'm on a sodium-restricted regimen and I HAVE to be aware of sodium content of everything I eat. I know ALL about nutrition labels. That's why I know just how high the sodium content in canned soups actually is.

In any case, I didn't say anything about Campbell soups tasting salty. I really have no idea what gave you that idea.

btw, I have my own auto blood pressure cuff and my insurance paid for it.

I got the idea that maybe Chucky intended to respond to me, you know, the one who claims that the science is not in on salt so we should not be going by anything but taste.

Tomato w/grilled cheese is the all-time classic lunch, and never gets boring.

Use Cream of Mushroom a lot as a base for other dishes.

Golden Mushroom is good with baked chicken and rice.

I haven't had a Campbell's soup since I was a child except for use in recipes. I prefer Progresso soups.

I've noticed in the last few years that Progresso soups are having less "stuff" and more liquid in them.

My favorite is the macaroni and bean. If I remember correctly, years ago they used to actually call it pasta e fagioli, then they dumbed it down. But I've always found it to be thick and full of pasta and beans. My kids love their chicken pot pie soup.

a lot of the folks in this forum have said it's better to die young than budge on feeding your greedy maw what it wants.

To each his own...

Myself, I like meat. Salt is my killer.
